    No reverse on 6 speed

Problem started a couple weeks ago where the gear shifter was stuck, felt like it was frozen.
Today it feels normal, all forward gears are ok.
But it does not go into reverse. The shifter will push down and will move to the correct place for reverse but as soon as i let go it just pops over to where first gear is.
    Any help please.

    Car is a 2004 1.8t

I tried finding reverse with the motor off and it went right in.
Started the motor and the car backed up ok. Went forward and back several times, no problems.
    Very odd!

Sounds like the screw holding the linkage to the shift knob may be a little loose. JHM had a decent video explaining adjustment. It isn't too difficult getting to the screws holding things together.

    Thanks for mentioning JHM
A little googling and I found some really well produced videos that will help with removing the shifter. Which is the first step in determining what is going on.

Before removing it, try adjusting it. When I did my clutch job my shifter was all sorts of messed up. After disconnecting and reassembling it, everything was good again.

    Thanks SJ
I need to find a video of someone doing the 6 speed transmission adjustment.
    Or a written procedure.
