    All,

I have been looking to rebuild my 2002 A4 1.8Tqm for a while now. I have found a part out car, engine is labeled as bad due to a timing belt broke. I have a friend going to out to check the timing marks and see what shape its in but they told me $150 to take it. Question is since I want to rebuild it am I ok to take a motor with possible top end damage or would it be recommended to find a working motor?

    Thanks
    Sean

$150 is an ok price. If you're planning on rebuilding completely anyway all you need is a good block, head and crankshaft. Since you're building might as well put better rods (IE is a highly recommended option) and pistons in it. Since valve damage is likely might as well upgrade those and the springs. After that you have a rebuilt engine with all the weaker points taken care of and ready to make you ~500HP!

Thanks for the reply. I bought the motor and should be picking it up tomorrow and hoping to start the tear down this weekend.

    Thanks

I got mine built at http://www.usedjapanmotors.com/. Although they specialize in JDM motors but they have a machine shop that builds Audi engines too.
