stock exhaust vs sport exhaust S6/S7

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Has anybody driven them both and is difference noticeable? I have the standard exhaust on S7 and its too quiet, thinking of buying original sport exhaust. Also like the acrapovic exhaust but I think it way too expensive.

I have driven a stock S6 and picking mine up today with Sport package so I will let you know. From all the videos I seen there is a difference but I will let you know real world. I also driven a e63 amg s recently so I can compare to that as well.

OEM sport exhaust will be very costly to order, you're better off buying anything aftermarket. I asked my dealer about this same thing once and I believe he said somewhere in the range of $5k or higher, and that the sound difference is not that dramatic. There are numerous posts on this forum of people with sport exhaust saying it is too quiet and looking for a bit more. Akrapovic is indeed expensive, many members here run Milltek non-resonated or AWE and are happy. If you really want it to growl you need to pair the exhaust with downpipes. My setup is in my signature and is about 50% louder than stock under normal driving (keep in mind the stock exhaust is almost silent - you will now hear some exhaust feedback from the car), and 400-500% louder at WOT. It makes truly amazing sounds and I get compliments from everyone on it. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a raw sound.

However the APR downpipe came out AFTER I purchased my exhaust; the APR DP is $1k cheaper than the Milltek equivalent so that may factor into your decision if you decide to go downpipes+exhaust.

Yeah I would say leave your exhaust stock and buy the APR Downpipes and stage 2 tune! Would save you a ton of money, have awesome sound and ad a ton of power!!!!!!

Yes, its a significant difference. The stock exhaust is very quiet compared to the rumble and burble of the sport exhaust. Now, dont get me wrong, its no AWE or Miltek, but it gets the job done for a factory part.

milltek or awe, only reason to run sport exhaust is if you're optioning a new car.

    Okay here is my comparison.

    2016 S6 - OEM Exhaust - Dealer car (Rate 3/10)

So the OEM exhaust sounds too subdued and very wimpy and excoriating. More excutive sedan vs sport sedan. Start up there is a light burble and no crackle or pop when the engine revs for the for startup, WOT acceleration you do get more sound but it sounds overly muffled and very light on the ears. There is no crackle and pop that I noticed in sport mode / manual. Again new exhausts tend to be quieter and the muffler insulation did not settle in yet so hard to judge new vs couple thousand miles. However, I knew if I would get the S6 with OEM exhaust the AWE/Miltek/Magnaflow would need to be put on to get a bit of excitement into the drive. I feel that the OEM exhaust does not fit this car very well.

    2016 S6 - Sport Exhaust - My car (Rate 7.5/10)

On startup there is burble and crackle and pop, on idle there is a slight cam lope sound / burble coming from the exhaust tips. In D/S mode / manual this is where the car shines. There is obvious crackle and pops when you let off the accelerator and on gear changes. Under WOT there is a good noise but its still a bit muffled. Again I just picked the car up at 12 miles on ODO and drove it like I stole it home on back country roads (I did the Motoman break-in, same as I do for every car I own) and there is clear crackle and pops on downshift/let off. It is a very pleasing sound. Just not high on the volume. I think adding a set of downpipes and sport exhaust would be perfect for a DD. I daily drive my cars and enjoy them all year round a lot highway miles so for me having no drone is a must. I think the exhaust will break in a bit more over the next few thousand miles. Hoping it will sound even better. I drove and e63 amg S and I would rate that exhaust only marginally louder over the S6 sport exhaust however you still get the crackle/pops but there was more of a mechanical rhythmic drumming sound at WOT probably would get a 8/10 from me.

Sure, people are welcome to do their own research. I am simply sharing what I was told.

My dealer told that it cost like 1150 Eur, not much, and I think I will install it.

I think you will like it. It's much better than stock, but not a full aftermarket sound. It will overloaded after a few thousand miles.
