Can Oil come up through the turbos if they are bad?

I;m looking at a 2001 s4 and the owner said the car is still pretty drivable but he said that oil is coming through the turbos. I didn't know that was possible. He's not a mechanic. How do I get to the bottom of this? What does it sound like is wrong here?

Def possible, thats usualy what happens when turbo seals go. You can check with a camera in the o2 sensor hole. And check in the lower intercooler pipeing hose to see if any oil falls out.

Oil in the lower intercooler hoses is not a sign of anything wrong. Smoke out of the tailpipe is.

How much smoke exactly? Alot under boost? Or just on idle, like a little bit

If the 2.7T is smoking it's either the spider hose or turbo seals.

    Spider hose will billow smoke.

Turbos can billow or have faint traces of smoke.

If you rip on the car daily and there is smoke under boost = shit
If you DON'T rip on the car daily and there is smoke under boost = maybe carbon, maybe shit
If you roll up to a light and there is a faint hint of smoke wafting past you = shit
If your are sitting there idling and there is smoke = shit

It is if theres alot of oil. Not juat a little but say you loose half a qt when you remove hose thats not a good sign. A tablespoon or soo is fine for sure

Even a half quart is fine, these cars had oil in the intercooler piping when new. This has been covered many times before.

I'd say my car is Shit then, but it's impossible to tell since im in canada and its still really cold out.

    No smoke under boost.

Faint smoke on idle. (Don't know if smoke or condensation/steam or whatever)

Rule of thumb: If there's no smoke and no noise; keep flogging

When my turbo hit the bucket on my previous car there was tons of smoke everywhere. The turbo was obviously hot and I was just sitting at an intersection and smoke started to billow out from the hood. It looked like there was a fire under there but it was just burning oil. It wasn't even very much oil.

Bad turbo smoke normally has a blue hue to it. Spider hose smoke is normally thick
