    Driving with the MAF disconnected

Due to my ongoing diagnosis (see Immobilizer Glitch thread) I have found that disconnecting the MAF allows my car to start and run properly. I have been trying to find a definitive answer to the long term effects of running the car with the MAF disconnected and seem to be getting conflicting information as to whether this may cause damage. I've ordered a new MAF and it should be here this week but I want to know if it's safe to drive the 80 mile round trip to work and back until the new one arrives?

Solid info only please; I've spent the last couple of hours wading through speculation.

The answer would be no. Like any sensor that regulates engine parameters you should have it working and running. I doubt there is any 'real' answer to this beyond no.

Ive unhooked it temporary for short drives when needed. I wouldn't do it for an 80mile round trip. Your cars going to run like crap with such wonky air/fuel ratios and knocking.

I've had to drive without the MAF sensor plugged in multiple times for various reasons. If that is the only issue with the car then drive gently and you will be probably be fine. I've only done short (<20 mile) drives with mine unplugged but never noticed any issues.
