GIAC stage 3 vs APR stage 3 (video)

GIAC stage 2. Fat fingers hit the wrong key Mods correct that please.

Did some pulls with a buddy of mine this morning. Both cars on 93. My car (camera car)- GIAC stage 2, awe touring cat back, roc euro intake. His - APR stage 3 blower, full awe exhaust, intake, APR tuned. I've known Mike since I was a freshman in college so there was a lot of shit talking leading up to this, but all in good fun. First 2 pulls I had one passenger and he had 3. The last pull, those 2 passengers got in my car and I was still able to pull some on him. He's going to EPL for a re-tune soon because of this outcome. Ignore the cackling, we spent the last 2 months talking shit to each other so my car of people were a little hyped.

OP, nice pulls How long have you been GIAC Stage 2? I'm thinking of going GIAC on mine as well. Always liked them over APR even on the K04/B5 platform.

That's because GIAC has always been the more aggressive tune. I loved it on my B5 S4 but chose APR when I had my B8.5 just to be "safer".

GIAC has always been the more aggressive OTS tune (across all platforms) that's for sure. I'm assuming you went APR because at the time still on stock clutch on the S5? Are you going team OEM+ on the S4

I'm not sure how APR crapped the bed. It's not our product and it should be easy to make more power. That's basically how it is with every charger Magnuson sells directly. Magnuson offers the kit with a conservative tune and warranty. It runs minimal boost, and bypasses dramatically at around 80c. If you want more power, you swap the pulley, especially on non ecu bypassed models, and get a new tune.

Well a couple things really played into my decision for the S5.

When I had GIAC on my B5 the turbos blew. I remember hearing less stories of APR blowing turbos. So I had it in my mind that APR was always the safer tune. (We all know B5 turbos were problematic anyway, but still)

The S5 at the time was only a couple months old and I didn't know I would only keep it for 11 months so I wanted to stay as reliable as possible.

I was one of the first people here to start modding that platform. AWE had asked me to be a test car for the stage 2 pulley on the 6 speed trans but the reward wasn't great enough for the risk. I love AWE and always will, but if I'm letting you test something that could potentially ruin my $60k car, the deal has to be sweeter than what I was offered.

Thinking back, I'm almost positive that the stage 2 upgrade for the B8.5 6 speed wasn't available to the public at the time I upgraded anyway.

Lastly, the shop that I always use is an APR dealer and they were able to flash through the OBD port in house while installing the pulley. Kinda made everything much easier for me.

As for the current S4. No pulley or tune for me this time around. I had it and I don't miss it. One thing I do miss is my AWE exhaust and that's going to happen within the next few months.
Wheels/tires I'm still on the fence about. For now I actually like how the stock peelers look.
I guess you could say ill be team OEM+ since I really doubt I'll go that crazy with this car. I don't plan on keeping it for longer than next year anyway.

I'm having a very hard time wrapping my head around the fact that one car has a pulley, intake, and exhaust and the other car has a $10k blower upgrade on it and still gets walked.

This shouldn't be acceptable in any way.

Eurotech Motorsports? I'm considering heading over there to get tinted, possibly detailed as well. As far as tuning shops, I've always been an AWE/GIAC guy, but will consider all options when the time comes.

We're written software for a smaller pulley, making dramatically more power.

What's the point of running stage 3 kit if you are running conservative tune after spending all those money...
Just staying stage 2 makes more sense.

Yup EuroTech. I won't let anyone else touch my cars. Shoot Danek an email, tell him Danny with the B8 S4 sent you. They'll give you a good price.
I've always been an AWE/GIAC guy as well from my B5 days.
When I was on the fence about taking the S5 to stage 2 straight from stock, Danek took me for a ride in his old APR stage 2 S4 and I was sold. It also helped to convince me that APR wasn't a slow tune for these cars by any means.

For current and future plans I direct you to my mod thread, since I basically just talk to myself in there lol . http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...and-mod-thread

They did back then as well. They just had to send the ECU out for flashing, where as the APR they did in house.

Ummm last I checked your name is on the blower. If you want to distance yourself from the stg III mess, you might want to get that removed. Do not take this as a jerk comment. I want this platform to be furthered but think it is stupid that someone who buys a new 10k supercharger with a tune for it runs slower than the normal pulley and tune guy.

I can't believe that after spending 10k on a stg3 kit, you want customers to call APR and spend another 2K (guesstimate) for a more aggressive map, smaller pulley and install!!!
Last time I checked as you move up on stages on any car it shouldn't be a step backwards. Hopefully EPL can make the stg3 upgrade viable.

APR doesn't give two shits about this platform anymore. When was the last time they came out with a product for this platform? Last summer? They come up with 1-2 products a month for the 2.0 and 4.0 platforms. This should be obvious by now.

If you want more power, you swap the pulley, especially on non ecu bypassed models, and get a new tune.
Arin - this particular car was tuned by APR, and was not on the conservative tune you mention above. Hence my comment about APR shitting the bed. I hope APR would attempt to help that customer maximize the blowers potential in the first place.
