Hi guys,my passat 1.8t started to playing up yesterday. First all lights, clock, odometer went off completely. I disconected battery and turn it back on,everything back to normal. But now when I start a car,it's says ALTERNATOR WORKSHOP and battery light stays on in cluster. Any ideas what to do,what I need to do? Thanks.....
I know audi and passat have same engine,so maybe someone had similar issue..

Belt may be slipping or the clutch pulley on the alternator is going back. Check the battery with a voltmeter and make sure it reads over 13v while car is running

    Its safe to bet..
The battery, even a bad one, will always reading 13 and up while the car is running. Thats with a good alternator. But you can replace the clutch pulley itself, it's a lot cheaper that way

How hard is to replace? Never done any work where belts are included. So not sure if it's hard or not...

Ehhh it's a simple concept and what needs to be done is simple but you need the special tool to do it correctly and the actual physical part can get irritating but just educate yourself on it and how the clutch pulley works and after watching a DIY replacement video, decide whether the money you save by doing it yourself will be worth the time you spend on the car or the money you would normally be spending to have a shop do it
