CTS woes, how to push it in enough?!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Replacing my coolant temp sensor (the bitchy one behind the engine). Anyway I got it out and trying to get the new one in. However I cannot get it pushed in enough for the C clip to snap in properly. It is not going in far enough for the clip to seat behind the shoulder.. And I can hardly get any leverage on it because Firewall. Any tips?! My knuckles are bruised I've been at it for about 3+ hours.

its a bit more work but if you can get underneath and drop the exhaust I found it wayyy less stressful and time consuming to swap that sensor. Also if it wont go in all the way the rubber seal may be rolled or caught in the piping try lube on the seal.

my exhaust is welded so that would be a lot more work. although it may come to that lol.

I'm using lube. It is very close.

finally got it. clipped in the bottom half then I had to sit on the IM and use my belt to pull it up/torque on it with my full bodyweight. jeebus. it's like the o-ring was just a smidge too fat, but I had ordered one from a few different places and they were all the same. Either way, if this thing leaks when I get it all back together, I quit.

fun stuff, spent all that time getting that one in and the freakin wires broke. So I had to pull it off. And it was jammed in lol. Some creative words and maneuvering with a screwdriver and hammer and its out! Found a new one local (thank god) and it went in easy as pie -_- No idea what was wrong with the first one.

I'm just glad that is over with lol. My hands are pretty beat up; close rival for largest PITA on the car with the pinch bolts.

it was probably tighter than normal because of corrosion or gunk stuck to the inside of the hole where it goes. I replaced mine while the coolant pipe was off during my motor pull, and there was some hard gunk that I cleaned out with a wire brush which helped. Even after doing that the o-ring was a very tight fit

Yeah. That job is a bitch.

I'd rather do a snub mount.
