I was wondering if I could easily swap from a 2000 a6 4 spoke mfsw to a 3 spoke msfw from an 2000 b5 a4? or something similar? I would like something sportier. Thanks for your help.

Yes you can. I replaced the stock 4-spoke MFSW in my 2000 with a B5 S4 wheel.

I have a manual so I can't speak to whether the shift buttons will work, but I assume so. Airbag is plug and play.

Yes. It's a direct swap. I'd recommend one from a MKI/II Audi TT or B6 A/S-4. Airbag harness is typically direct plug-n-play. Other controls may or may not work depending one what you've got and what you want to work.
    But, yep.

I wanted to do the same thing as I also have a 2000 a6. My a6 steering wheel has buttons for volume. I have a black tiptronic steering wheel from a b5 laying around and figured if i can get the volume control to work with the tiptronic steering wheel, then why not?
