    HPFP Install - Codes After

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Is there anything different between the B8 and the B8.5 HPFP? When we installed it on my car the bolts seemed different from the B8... So not sure if there is anything different on my HPFP vs the B8. I bought the Auto-tech upgrade. Getting Lean Codes and Fuel Rail Pressure Codes. Car was bogging at first when getting on it and shifting. Now it seems to have gone away. But Got the codes...

Interested to see if you have issues. I was going to install mine next weekend. How did you depressurize the system?

I would clear all codes, drive around for a bit under all throttle condiditons and recheck. You might have had air in the system after replacing the pump. If you get the codes again, somethings wrong with the install/pump.

Well I was running Stage 1 E85 file... Drove a while... No bogging. Got CEL the next day... Flashed stage 2 E85... Bogged... No CEL first day... CEL next morning after about 10miles driven. Drove some more... Bogging seems to have gotten better...

Will clear codes and drive more to see

Subbed. I would have had mine installed 2 weeks ago if I didn't strip one the damn bolts.

Looks like I may have an issue with the APR CPS install. I am taking the car back to the shop that did the install to figure out why the duty cycle on the Super Charger Coolant pump is at 10% when it should be 85%!!!

The high IATs may be throwing off the fueling. Will post after its sorted out.

Yeah! That temp you posted is crazy for idle!

For reference, in mid 80 temps and high humidity (DA of 2000 ft, where my area is FL is near sea level), my idle on my stock cooling system is 39C, and only raising to 75C on a gear 1-4 WOT run (dual pulley).

Do you think the SC suffered any damage from driving about 100miles undef those conditions?

That doesn't affect fuel pressure. I would say maybe with the lean codes fuel trim codes. But not the low pressure codes. Sounds like something is wrong with the pump. The pump makes pressure to meat the commanded pressure. the only problem you could have is the actuator that controls fuel inlet into the pump. But that still should not be affected by high IAT numbers. Its basically a dumb device. The ECM tells the fuel pump what pressure it wants and the pump with the EFC valve will do what it needs to do to allow the amount of fuel into the pump to create the commanded fuel pressure. Air should be bleed out of it instantly. Since air compresses and fuel doesn't. I would log and watch commanded fuel pressure vs actual fuel pressure and see what the pump is doing.

Also just loosen the fitting on the pump to relieve fuel pressure and just place a rag over the fitting so if fuel does spray out it won't spray on you.

We did that and what we noticed was that the HPFP was keeping up while cruising but not under WOT... Was off by like 1bar

Curious if the CPS issue is just air in the system. You could try follow the APR instructions on bleeding it to see if you get any air out of it.

whats the part number for your HPFP? I noticed some people talking about getting it from ECS but the only one they sell is for the 2.0T where the upgraded one is for 2.5T/3.0T/4.0TT, etc. Just an idea. Ordered mine from USP.. hope not to have similar issues.

Seems like either your running out of fuel supply. Or your demanding to much fuel and the pump can't keep up with volume. But either of those shouldn't be a problem because you upgraded the pump. Are you running E85? and E85 tune? Can you monitor the EFC valve that lets fuel into the HPFP? I would see what thats doing as well. Its either a problem with the low pressure pump can't keep up to supply the HPFP or the HPFP is bad and can't keep up with higher volume demand.

Yes running E85 tune. The LPFP is fine and is keeping up.

May be an issue with the Auto-Tech upgrade

Then I would think there is a problem with the HPFP. Was it a complete pump you bolted on or did you have to swap stuff out in your factory pump?

Depends on how high it got during the 100 miles of driving, but more than likely not.

Im going to have to say either you cut one of the seals during swapping or something is wrong with the parts that were shipped to you. I would take the pump off and carefully go through it. See if anything stands out. Sounds like the pump cannot keep up with demanded volume. at that commanded pressure

Hey Grumpy not sure if you found the issue but I came across this. You might hit up the op and see if everything got figured out. I'm gonna install mine soon and hoping everything goes well.

How many miles on the OEM pump? I've seen install videos from JHM where they say doing the upgrade on relatively used pumps might not be the best idea since it might not make a perfect seal when the new piston/cylinder is installed.

Yeah stage II, but still have throttle cutting out into 4th gear. Fuel filter/release valve didn't work so doing HPFP. Might as well upgrade while at it.

    93. Doing the HPFP upgrade because I have to get a new HPFP anyways. And figured what the hell, if I'm doing that to run E85 might as well install the LW crank while in there.

Have you tried another tuner? I'm tempted to load APR just to see if the same thing happens. Might be a good way to weed out software issue. APR has 30 day money back policy so no risk.

Not every tuner has the same comfort level of how much they adjust the thresholds these codes are thrown...(for the record my comfort level of opening these threshold is very low, how ever others in this market don't share the same feelings).

I'd say the better way to "weed" out software is looking at how many other consumers are running the product with out issue.

Please let me know how I can help.
