Creepy, Unexplained Opening of Sun Roof

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
After pulling into my garage yesterday afternoon, I happened to look up and notice that the sunroof had been vented open (rear glass tilted up). I have NOT knowingly opened my sunroof in ages, and I can't figure out how it would just randomly open like this. Anyone else have this happen to them? Gremlins?

Is it set to roll down the windows/open the sunroof by holding the unlock button on the remote? Not sure about '15s, but I did the VAGOM mod to allow this feature. Maybe the unlock button got pressed at some time?

However, I did have a car lock the doors on its own one time. I was standing outside of it pumping gas and i heard the "clunk" as all the doors locked, with the only keys sitting in the cup holder inside the car. Weird...

I haven't done any VAGOM modifications on my vehicle. The only thing that was changed was the tune, with the GIAC Stage II I have.

Maybe the shop did the common mods as a courtesy?

I suppose that's possible, but usually Ed at Induktion (or actually the technician, Frank) would always ask me specifically what I wanted. For example, when he installed my AWE Touring exhaust and resonated downpipes, and intakes, he asked if I wanted the Soundukator fuse pulled (yes, please!).

You can tell if it's enabled by looking under the "car" menu in the mmi. It will have a drop down box to allow you to toggle the sunroof feature.

My 2003 A6 does the same thing There is a short in the switch that has the sun room tilt open on its own. Usually its returns back after about 2 seconds, but sometimes I have to close it manually. It has been happening for about 3 years now on that car.

When I had my Q5, it was parked in the neighbors driveway in the winter. Their dog jumped on my lap and hit the trunk button on my keys, when I left 2 hours later I had a trunk full of snow.

Just went out to the car and checked this - nothing, as expected, because I never obtained any VAGOM modifications, nor did my tuner add anything like that. I also tried all the buttons on my remote key fob, and nothing out of the ordinary there as well.

Towards the end of my B6 S4 ownership, my S4 had developed some very odd electrical gremlins. Three or four times while accelerating from a stop the sun roof would fully open and then close itself with the knob in the fully closed position. My car was 6MT so no chance that I had touched it by accident.

Not sure if you've had previous Audis but there have always been sunroof switch issues. Not saying that's the case, but I wouldn't rule it out as something that can happen on the B8 as well.

Also maybe your hand hit it by accident when turning on a map light or opening the sunglass case? Just throwing ideas out there at this point.

This happens very randomly in my B7. Was told that it can be caused by dirty contacts in the switch.

Welcome to every Audi I've ever owned. S4 hasn't started the ghost sunroof stuff yet, but I'm sure it will.

Former B6 A4 owner here, and the same thing would happen; I also called them "gremlins" haha! I read that the contacts in the switch just needed to be cleaned, but never bothered.

Yes, I previously owned a 2005 S4, but never experienced this anomaly. With regards to accidently hitting the knob that controls the sun roof, I suppose anything is possible, but in my experience, some real force has to be applied when pressing the switch to activate it. Knowing that this is known issue with Audi vehicles, I will make it a point to check my sun roof upon exiting the vehicle from now on. And I hope the sun roof gremlin doesn't appear while the vehicle is parked.

Ah I hear you. I've luckily never experienced those sunroof gremlins either *knock on wood*. Hopefully it was just a one off thing for you and it never happens again :)
