New owner-2016 A4 need help with upgrades

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I've been rolling in a company car for the past 5 years or so and just got a new job. Decided on a slightly used 2016 A4 S Line (really don't know what that is even) manual transmission I picked up with only 3000 miles. Going to get it next week.

My last A4 had quite a bit in it as you can see from my sig. Need help from the Audizine team on best mods/issues with the following:

    eurocode front/rear sway bar set
JHM short shifter (-1" or stock height?)
Really want coilovers asap, had Stasis SS before but thinking about KW1 or Vots on this car. Where is the best place to get them?

As far as a tune, I had APR 1+ or whatever they called it with injectors/cat delete but Ive read some people have lost engines with the APR tune? Planning on getting the stage 2 for exhaust and test pipe. My old APR tune allowed me to run the test pipe without a CEL.

For exhaust I was looking at the AWE, thoughts?

Also probably pick up an encode TIP while I'm getting the sways from them.

Open to any advice, suggestions etch! Thanks

New owner-2016 A4 need help with upgrades

If the car has OE sport suspension on it, the 034 rear sway bar gets good reviews and works with the OE front one to kill most of the understeer. Adding an aftermarket front sway can increase front understeer, but it will corner flatter. 034's rear bar is on my short list of things to purchase.

I have no personal experience with short shifters on this car but I've heard mixed reviews.

People buy coilovers from a number of different vendors... ECS, Modbargains, etc.

APR is the big name tuning this platform; stage two works with a HFC or a test pipe (no full exhaust needed) and will run without a CEL. YMMV when it comes to passing state inspection.

Let's see some pictures of this car!

I'm sure it doesn't have a sport suspension with the wheel gap it has lol. I'm picking it up Wednesday next week!

If it's a true sline, then you do have sport suspension.

It has the emblems on the side and the door sills that say "S Line" so I guess so then? If the car will corner flatter with both sway bars and be more flickable in traffic, I'll go with the eurocode set then.

2014+ cars have the "S-line appearance package" which gives you the bumpers and side blades, but not what we would call a full S-line car. Full S-lines also have the sport suspension and S-line interior (sport seats and steering wheel).

Sad, oh well would've gotten coilovers anyway. So what's the best route on coilovers around the $1k mark?

Really would've liked those seats though! My last a4 had them. Manual transmission was my priority though. Very difficult to find

Arguing over coilovers is like opening Pandora's box or starting a political conversation at Thanksgiving. Check the suspension thread for brand ideas, but there are a lot of options out there.

LOL 100 true. I advocate for coilovers 100% of the time, but I know others feel equally strongly about spring/shock combos.

Regarding the short shifter, go with the JHM -1". I've had the super short throw JHM on my last two Audis and it's the best out there.

I would check out Unitronic tunes as well. I have APR stage 2 and I've had nothing but issues with APR since day 1. It's got the juice but I've probably gone through about 7-8 different files between stage 1 and 2 before it worked mostly right. A local friend has a 6MT B8 A4 that's Uni stage 1 with an HFC and it keeps up with my stage 2 APR no problem. Uni's website blows but their tunes are extremely conservatively rated. He put 245 AWHP down on a Mustang dyno...

AND with Uni you can flash your car at home...

I've heard of engine issues with Apr too. I'll reach out to uni next week. Do they have an option for test pipe CEL delete too?

Greeat, I JUST got the APR tune about an hour ago. So far so good though! Shouldn't issues have been corrected after the updates? Version 3 now?

APR or any tune sends your drive/powertrain down the tubes. With a 2016, you are giving up a lot. And when they tell you, just come in and we will take the tune off so you can get your expensive warranty work done, ask them how they will arrange that when you break down in
Des Moines or Fargo or Akron.

There's only one revision for the B8.5 tune. I have it. Crash had one too on his white Allroad. He had the same issue that I had/have with APR stage 2.... excessive timing pull. At one point I was pulling -10+ on multiple cylinders...pre-detonation is really bad for your engine. They finally gave me a beta file with ever so slightly reduced low end timing and it seems to have helped. If you have an Allroad I would really suggest the GIAC "race" file. It was developed ON a flex fuel allroad and yes it has a file for E85. Other guys on here has Revo Stage 2 on their Allroads and really like it.

The problem with the timing pull issue is that you probably wont know its really happening unless you have the mobile dongle like I do or a way to do logs of timing. So my guess is quite a few have it and don't know it

My APR stage 2 is really quick my I have a bit of a a bitter taste in my mouth after the crap I went through with it.

On my bucket list is to do a 30 day trial of all the tunes and dyno them on the same dyno to see how the feel and what they put down at the wheels

Yes, you're correct that they're relatively uncommon. They also tend to be expensive. Some people love the bumpers enough that it's worth it, but personally I don't mind the standard ones.

I'm not sure you'd notice timing pull unless you were logging it with VAGCOM honestly. Maybe AllroadCorbin can chime in though.
I'm interested in the GIAC tune also but it appears you'd need to use the handheld programmer to switch files between the 93 octane tune and the E85 tune. I definitely need to research it more. Wish GIAC's website was a little more user friendly...

If you value your factory engine warranty, don't tune it. It'll auto TD1 and you're screwed.
