Question about our transmission

This might pertain specifically to the C6.5 but I figured I'd keep general since all C6's have the same 6 speed zf tip transmission. Basically, I noticed that if I floor it at a light till about 50mph, the car will shift from 1st into 2nd and stay that way until the rpm's come down to like 2.5-3k, which it will then shift normally into 3rd and 4th, etc, etc. I am in normal "Drive" mode, but this feels more like sport mode. If I take off normally, then all the gears will cycle through without any kind of delay. Any reason for this?

Mine does that as well when letting off after a full throttle jump. I think it is a function of the pressure of the fluid keeping the car in gear. Once the pressure drops, the transmission will then shift as normal.

All 6-cylinder C6s have 6 speed Tip. Don't forget about the CVT.

And as for the shift mapping, the computer considered how quick you got on it and changed to a more aggressive mapping, yet still within the scope of Drive mode. Then goes back after a bit.

normal. but the real reason is that rather than immediately shift up when you release, only to have you 'smack it' again it stays in the lower gear to avoid a lot of unproductive but high stress (re-) downshifts.

said differently, it thinks you are in a situation where you will need the more aggressive mapping (for longer than just the one hit). you can always paddle shift out when you know that you are done.

Yup, I stated that at the beginning. As does the 4.2 and S6. :P

Provided your car had the paddle option box checked when it was built, or added later :) .

I'm starting to miss the paddles that my previous C6 had. Can't have paddles and a heated steering wheel at the same time d'oh!

I just meant that there are some C6s that Do Not have tiptronic (2.0T all have CVT transmissions) . Just nit picking since you said the word "all".
