    Rim Ceramic Coat?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am getting a set of Powder Coated satin finished black VMR rims and wanted to know if I can get a high quality ceramic sealant to help keep brake dust for scratching the wheel surface long term. I've seem various coatings like opticlear.

    Anyone have any recommendations?

My wheels are opticoated and they're super easy to clean. Running the factory pads.

If you use the Wolfgang product the key there is that it's a solid performer and designed for your paint finish too. The 15ml size will do an S3 2-3 times so you can actually treat the entire car including the wheels.

The other two, Pinnacle and McKee's are great but for wheels only. Litterally they "mist" on and once you wipe, they will begin to flash dry and you're done. You can apply it every couple months to renew them but overall they are made to last for 12-18 months. I'm partial to Pinnacle for that specific product between the two. However, McKee's line up is stellar overall and well known. They are in the process of relabeling the HD Line up in many cases.

Thanks! Do you guys actually use a paint cleaner before you apply the coatings or would sonax do the trick? I have powdercoated wheels.

I use Sonax but when I pull the wheels off I would recommend you use a buffer and hand power where needed to polish them or at least insure they are ready to be coated. I clean mine up right before I put them on for the season, thus my winter wheels which are actually pretty clean since we really didn't have a winter, are in my storage bags awaiting a clean, polish and seal when I bring them down for installation. If I have time, I may do my summer wheels before I put them away for the year. Thankfully all that's months away.
