Question Bought a CPO b8.5 S4, strange emblem

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello All,

So I upgraded from an A4 b8.5 to an S4 b8.5 last week, car is in mint condition with clean car proof.

I noticed that the V6T badge on the fenders are actually VT6. why is that?

Am I being parnoid that the car might have had body work done before, or maybe the emblems were removed to polish the car and put back wrong.

How can I check if body work was done on the car

I don't have picture as I am out of town, but will update next week

    Thanks

    UPDATE

So did some digging around, apparently the fender and door were "blended" and some cosmetic body work was done to remove scratches and dings from previous owners. the dealer took the car back to remove scratches on roof, trunk and repair the rear left door for free. apparently cosmtic repairs don't show on car proof.
what are some tips i should be aware of? is there anything to worry about from blend jobs?
    Car is CPO

That's stock emblem. Buy the supercharged ones from ECS. I agree it makes no sense.

Insurance claims would show up on a Carfax, otherwise might be hard to determine.

very odd, seems intentional for some reason the PO did that. Like Vietnamese people turning the Acura emblem upside down for a V instead.

Taking a paint depth meter to it would tell you, but you would have to find a detailer that has one or pay $200-300 for one. It would tell you if the panel has been resprayed.

My wife is Vietnamese, so I will have to bust her chops about her "peeps" tonight

OP - I would take the car back to the dealer for paint-depth measurements; the original owner could have paid out of pocket for repairs. It is also possible that the car was detailed and the badges were put back on incorrectly, or the owner just felt like rearranging the letters.

Regardless, it does seem a bit odd, but it could be worse.

The badges were removed and replaced at some point, unless yours are also "VT6". He is wondering if there could be undisclosed damage.

This 100% isn't true. My CPO X3 has a clear carfax, but according to an insurance company... it has been in an accident. Also on my previous car, I got into a minor accident and went through insurance... that didn't show up on carfax either.

The shop that does the repair has the ability to report it too. When I got new tires installed at a local shop I noticed a Carfax sign on the wall and inquired about it. They told me that Carfax is connected to thier computers and the tire shop doesn't have to do anything. In thier case all info is uploaded weekly. I got into a fender bender a couple years ago and had it fixed at a local shop and it wasn't reported by either the shop or insurance. Got a good trade value because of that and got into my Audi.

Many cpo cars have bodywork done and nothing shows up on Carfax. Bumper as resprays maybe a panel. See it all the time.

No, it's not. The stock emblem is "V6T" not "VT6", which is what the OP has. That's either an aftermarket emblem or a weird misprint of the stock one.

Get it checked out by a shop, for sure, but like others have said: get the Supercharged badges.

That's insane though, I had two dealers when I was looking flat up tell me there was work done on the car while I was looking at them. One even emailed me back to say the car was in the shop getting the rear bumper sprayed, when I asked for pictures. Amazing what some of these dealers do to get stuff out the door.

I'm sure it was the body shop that put the emblem on wrong.
My friend bought a CPO S4 from a dealership. They swore up and down that the car had never had bodywork done. When he got the car home and was detailing it he found overspray and bondo. He returned it the next day for full refund. When buying used you never know what you get.

Yeah pretty much, I got hold of the body shop they are doing the work at, they have all high end cars getting bumper sprayed, and cosmitic body work.

Nothing shows up on the vin number and the paint job has life time warranty through Audi.

The shop told me the paint have life time warranty through them too.

apparently it is a common practice for this to happen.

I don't know how to feel

I daubt it was done for cosmetic reasons. Find a paint detailer that will inspect the paint for you with a paint meter. That way at least you will know if there is significant amount of bondo or the clear is thin.

I wouldn't be surprised if the car was in minor accident. Carfax doesnt always show the true history of the car.

    Thanks
