I got back from a month long work trip and went to start my car.. completely dead. I was getting codes before it sat for "power savings" or something like that.. I decided to check/change the battery and found a much smaller battery than I was expecting lol.

Could this have been the problem?

I am fairly sure that the problem was that your battery was on it's last legs.

    This is most likely.

Opinions vary on need for coding, but it's possible the replacement battery might not have been coded and never got properly charged from the start.

Isn't that battery I linked incorrect for this model? Is about 3/4 the size of oem. About 5-6" shorter in length.. it basically looks like a normal sized car battery you would see in a corrola...

Weight savings. Put in a proper battery and you risk having a slower car.

Ya this was my thought. Probably better to have a light car that doesn't start :)

    +1

I've had this happen. My original battery went into "power saving mode". If your car does go into this mode and you just swap batteries without recoding the new battery your new battery will drain way faster. You have to code the car for the new battery to get it out of power savings mode.

With a lighter car you could possibly push start...

    ... Okay, I'll stop.

    I had a 9 lb braille battery in a previous car. No worries with a 6-speed ;)
