Hey guys,

New to the board and have heard some guys saying not to install springs on standard shocks (A6 / C6). Others say they have had zero problems. Obviously, my mechanic is also saying that he should swap out not just the shocks but the control arms while he is down there too. But he hasnt seen the car yet, and obviously wants $$.

The car is an 08 with under 60k miles, no mods yet. Looking to get 18s or 19s and lower.

What is the most cost effective way (parts and labor) to simply close the wheel gap without major problems down the road? Not looking for anything slammed. Just something that could be D.D.ed and not smash into parking curbs. I was hoping to get this under $1,000. But mechanic is quoting me $700-800 in labor, plus new control arms, plus springs, plus shocks.
