But before I become one! .. I want to do something to my car.. I already need to change my o2 sensors and catalytic converter.. But I was thinking about changing my stock turbo also. I know this "might" be a very stupid question but is there a "upgrade" to the stock turbo without tuning or changing the ECU or should I just stick with a new Stock turbo? I am under the impression that if you change the turbo even with a new stock you need to reprogram the ECU is this correct. This is my first car with a turbo in it and in theory I know how turbo works. but when it comes to upgrading I am not sure.

    Thanks,
    Martin

If you need any 02 sensors or a Cat, I have a few of each good used ones, feel free to PM me. Do you have emissions laws where you live? If you don't get a Tune, and get the tuner to tune out cat & 02 sensors, and go to a catless downpipe, no hassle, no codes. (IMO thing to do, as I don't have emissions where I live).

Why upgrade turbo? Is your shot? Otherwise, Stage 1+ or Stage 2+ tuning software, will make the car like it had a big turbo upgrade. Motoza Is very reputable, and around $400 all said and done. A common upgrade is a OEM K04 turbo, if you want to go big.

So I have to have a cat.. I do not believe my turbo is broken. I want to change it because the guy that had the car before me did not really take care of the car. I rather change it now and not have to worry later. So if I do change the stock turbo with a new stock and get a stage 2+ I will see performance? Would I have to upgrade anything else like heads and injectors?

before you talk more power, get the car in proper mechanical shape before upgrading your turbo. if you say the previous owner didn't take good care of the car, that is an instant red flag and components of the car should be checked.

with that said above, all the cool college kids choose the f21l/eliminator turbos with a motoza tune. cheap, more reliable than big turbo, yet still putting down good numbers. then once the college kids graduate they go BT.

    good luck.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

You will need the cash for some unplanned repairs in your near future.

    This.

Change all of the fluids in the car(oil, gearbox, rear diff, coolant(should be pink), power steering, brakes) and check the car for worn out parts(control arms, shocks/springs, vacuum lines, motor/tranny/snub mount). If you don't have receipts of the timing belt being done, put it at #1 on your to-do list. There's plenty more to check. Make sure everything is running in good shape before you get the tune or it will show up once you upgrade the tune. After the car is in good running shape, buy some upgraded injectors(ask your tuner which ones they prefer before you purchase) and get a proper tune for them. You'll be a happy camper.

I am a college kid and I skipped the f21->BAT craze and went straight to 2.7t single turbo. :)
