    15k service and G12 coolant

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Joined the Audi family in December and took my S5 in to the dealership for the 15k service today. I bought it from a private seller and wanted the first service to be done there, hoping they would notice any issues. I haven't had any problems at all, but I noticed the G12 coolant was just below minimum before I brought it in. I assumed the dealer would fill it as part of the service but they did not. That makes me think they didn't really check the rest of the items on the 15k list and simply checked the boxes to get it done. I plan to talk with the advisor tomorrow, but am I being too paranoid here?

Go in to top it off. Part of the service. Bring up shit to them, maybe get a free oil change due to them not doing what should of been checked. That's what I would do.

They should have definitely filled that... The level fluctuates depending on if the car is hot or cold but not enough to go below minimum from full. Like Jkownz said bring it back, they should be shown there misstep.

An interesting update: dealer apologized for the oversight and asked me to come in so they could make it right. Met them when they opened on Saturday morning and the SA had it in and out in 10 minutes. I should have, but didn't, looked to be sure it was done, assuming they would correct the error for a new customer to them (purchased the car used from a private seller).

I'm detailing the car Saturday afternoon, pop the hood, and the G12 level is at minimum like it was before I took it in. Emailed the SA today and he insists he filled it to max himself and says something else must be going on. The car isn't a year old, I didn't see a large amount of fluid in my garage between the time I took it in on Saturday and when I started detailing and I came directly back home from the dealer. It seems highly unlikely that the G12 went from max to min in a couple of hours with no evidence. Any thoughts here or are we dealing with lies or incompetence?

Demand you watch them do it. And also put on lift to check for any leaks since your there. Better off being safe then sorry later

I wouldn't go in with guns blazing just yet, you might have a problem and need to rely on them to fix it. Let them check it over and top it up again.

Out of curiosity, turn the cabin heater up to full heat and see if the coolant level drops again, air in the system can cause the level to drop as the airlock passes out of the system.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate the feedback. I plan to drop it by tomorrow morning. I will give that a shot in the meantime, James.

I find it strange that it's been at practically the same level (a hair below minimum) for ~2 weeks, then they top it off twice in three days and it appears at exactly the same level it was previously. It seems like the amount at or below minimum would have been consumed too if there was a leak or consumption. Maybe it's just all a coincidence and there is something wrong. Hopefully that's not the case.

Yesterday afternoon I took a look at the level about 30 minutes after I got home from work. It's a 15 minute drive from work to home and it was stop and go traffic most of the way. The fluid level was now halfway between max and min. Could it be that the cold start level is at the minimum but that it moves up toward max after a short drive? I haven't noticed this much of an increase on previous cars I owned, but this is my first Audi.
