Hi fellas, I need some help my 2011 with 55k on it had the motor replaced at 18k by audi the piston ring on cylinder 2 broke and trshed the block. Fast forward to last week the wife gets back from a road trip, stops by the house then drives up to the drug store when she starts it back up it starts shaking she makes it home. Has a 304 code only so I swap plugs and coils still the same plug 4 all wet I assume stuck injector, I call the SA and he says injectors on extended coverage bring it in. I do not hear anything for a few days so I go over there and they had dropped the oil pan and same as before piece of piston ring and piston WTF? So know they are like its td1 it will be 13k to fix it. I need some advice, I tried calling AoA and they are closed for the day.

The results on here have varied in regard to getting AoA to pay when you are td1. It's a moot point for you, but for anyone reading this, NEVER BRING YOUR CAR TO THE DEALER WITHOUT COMPLETELY REMOVING YOUR TUNE FIRST.

I will let others chime in as to their experience. Best of luck.

Were you having some misfire/detonation issues in high boost in the upper gears? I wonder if the same APR issue that @crash1121 and others had caused this.

Don't all the B8.5 allroads have that issue? Seems dangerous for the health of the engine...

The vehicle was not driven hard, has never had misfires until the rings gaveway.

If there was a turbocharger failure, versus a mechanical piston / ring failure, it would bring more of a question of tuner...
But, going off the words of FourRingThing saying the car wasn't abused and driven at a 'normal operating' consistency says more of the poor quality control / material selection of the rings then what any modifications were slapped to the engine.

It's odd that you had the same issue twice after having the motor rebuilt by Audi. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Yes APR tuned for both. Denied coverage by AoA the thing blew up driving 25 MPH to the corner store. All I can say is just do not do it....... $11K mistake I will not make again. Going back to stock, I have no choice but to get a motor or the car is worthless. These motors are so bad that I have to get a new one as all of the junkyards and such will not even deal with them as they say they all come back under a warranty claim so they just will not deal with them. you can buy the whole motor new from ECS Tuning for $7100 delivered. but then it cost $$$ to get it installed. I have had both versions of the APR tune. learned my lesson will be moving on, I love Audis but the CAEB motor is a turd. the 12 and beyond seem to be better, why do you suppose they did a redesign after 3 years??????

For $7100, I would have an independent shop remove/rebuild the motor....you could be in and out for less than $7k. Especially, if you're talking stock pistons, some total seal piston rings, and a engine seal kit.

This case makes no sense whatsoever. Was the original motor replaced or rebuilt? There's a difference.

Plenty of used CAEB motors out there to be had. There's a cyl head with 30k on it in my 140k car to prove it.

Yea wow, before you go pulling the trigger on a new motor, lay out your options. I mean for 7k you could potentially build a sick motor to put in your car...or swap a s4 motor or something. Just throwing that out there.

it was replaced by the dealer, there are a few out at like LKQ but who knows what you will get, the part has a minimal warranty and does not cover labor, so 4K motor 3K labor, something goes wrong know I have to repeat the process on my nickel. I have called many places and most do not want to tie up a bay for so long, in every case nobody proposed a rebuild. just used or new. there were pieces of piston and ring in the bottom of the oil pan, the cylinder is scraped to hell, what happens when I sink funds into tearing it down to find out it cannot be salvaged?

you are correct this does not make sense, I guess I am just unlucky. the first time Audi told me it was due to Audi receiving bad oil scrapers, this time they tell me its APR which I know is not true but it why they are not helping me so be careful with the TD1.

Did the dealer replace the whole engine or just the short block?

It sounds like there's nothing worth salvaging from the current block. That sucks man. I've read a lot of oil consumption posts but never heard of an engine blowing because of it. Same with APR. I put over 100k on my APR stage 2 oil consuming pistons before I swapped them last summer.
