PSA for those with white leather (platinum) seats

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I have a set of B5 S4 platinum leather seats that I'm using for a non car related project. They were a little dirty so I wanted to clean them up. Tried the typical leather cleaners, nothing was really working that well, so out of curiosity I decided to try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

Unreal results..... I think the craziest part is how much better the leather feels now. Before it felt rough and old. Now it feels smooth and new again. I knew they needed a cleaning, but its amazing what's under 15 years of use.

At first I couldn't tell if I was more happy or disgusted, but the end result was MUCH better than I expected. Not sure the history of the seats before they came into my possession, others may not have as drastic results, but this is the most effective leather cleaner I've found so I had to share.

Anyways, enough of me rambling on, heres what you all want. The pictures. I taped off some areas just to emphasize the before and after.

You'd expect this area to have minimal dirt

And for those of you who are curious, this is what I'm talking about:

I used that on my black seats, got rid of the sheen and returned the seats to their original Matt finish, then I went over them with auto glym leather conditioner

I use those on my white kicks too. Works like a charm. Never thought to use them on leather though.

This is a great tool that's a hidden gem in the detailing world. But it's always good to condition the seats with a real leather conditioner such as leatherique as well.

If you're going to be that guy; ecru is the tan color usually associated with the C4s. The white leather in the B5 was called silver

Same material as the Mr Clean scrubs and a hell of a lot cheaper. They don't last quite as long as Mr Clean but they work great.

The "extra strength" version may seem like a gimmick, but it truly does hold up much better than the regular version.

Good point that I left out. All I had at the time was a Lexol conditioner, but a quality conditioner such as Leatherique should be used after a cleaning like this.

Magic erasers are actually a fire proof insulation developed for bullet trains, someone just happened to figure out with a little water they work great as a scrubbing pad.

Yeah, they work great on leather, just don't use them too often or rub too much, or you'll wear away the color coat. It's basically like using really porous 3000 grit on whatever you're cleaning.
