    Uh oh, transmission issue

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ok, so I just had the weirdest experience with my car. I was pulling into work and literally coasting in the parking lot looking for a spot. It felt like the car stalled out but the rpms were over 1k. I went to give it a little gas and nothing happened. When I let off the gas I felt a big clunk like my transmission found a gear and I lunged forward.

This is my 4th S6 and I have never felt this before. I only have 8600 miles on the car right now. Anyone else ever get this?

Sh*t .... your car is brand new. Time to take it to the dealership? Curious how they will react with your mods. Keep us informed. Hopefully it is simple.

They didnt care about my mods when I brought it in for the 5k. My dealership(s) are actually relatively mod friendly. That being said, Im going to wait and see if it happens again then Ill bring it in.

What dealer do you go to? I'm looking to mod my car, but don't want to deal with dealership issues if I need a warranty claim.

Hi HyperM3. We're you in S or D at the time? I've had a similar issue with my MY16 S6 after going over a speed bump on the road. Pity sure I was in S mode. In my case it seemed that it caused the traction control to kick in. First time it happened I didn't see the dash light (gets hidden by the top of the steering wheel), but the second time I did see the swerving light blink briefly.

My transmission has a lot of quirks in S mode. I'm hoping they bring out a software upgrade, because it doesn't do anything weird in D mode or manual, so it has to be software related. I understand ROW gets different TCU software than the US gets.

Nope, I was in D mode. Im in D mode 99% of the time. My parking lot where I work is three months old so its butter smooth. I was off the gas just coasting around 10mph when this happened.

I was going pretty slow and coasting down hill at the time. I'm mostly in D also. I only select S for spirited driving or engine braking down hill. But if you were on "butter smooth" ground, I doubt it was the same issue.

Another thought, are you tires all even pressure and wear?

No, since the car had 200 miles on it. It's now at 8600 miles. But I do love your negative thought process. It was designed for the C7.5 specifically.

Doesn't explain anything with your transmission but maybe the suspension errors are related to your links? I know someone on here had a bunch of those pop up when his lowering link had an issue.

OK, just spent the last half hour going through the car with the VAG. Three times I ran it and tried to clear all the fault codes. Each time I turned the car off and back on they came back. Looks like Ill have to bring it to the dealer. Unfortunately, I wont have time till next Tuesday. Good thing my commute to work is only 2 miles.

It looks like all of the errors my car through up when I flashed the Unitronic tune. Like the ECU went missing on the can-bus. Just clearing the errors may resolve it for now. I had a sport diff error come up at one stage, and after clearing it have never seen it again 3000km later.

Edit: Just saw your latest post. Sorry to hear that.

I hope not but its always a possibility. I checked through the engine bay last night and didnt see anything odd. My garage is pretty pest free though so Id be hard pressed to think its that. Theres a lot of other tasty things to chew on in there.

I had similar errors on my car ('16 S6 that had about 4k miles) a few months ago. The car startwd driving very rough. Like either a transmission problem or like there was no ait in the suspension. It started with tpms error and the same others you showed followed shortly thereafter. I checked tire pressure when it first came up with the error and it was ok. Driving to the dealer to get out looked at one of my tires blew out (stock p-zeros). Dealership went through everything and could find any problems apart from the tire. Replaced the tires and haven't had ant further problems since (3k more miles).

First thing I would do is take the chip off... then if it returns again DO NOT clear the faults. Straight to dealer, no chip installed.

If it never comes back without the chip, well there's a suspect then.

Yeah, it happened to my dads A6 just a couple months ago. But he keeps his car outside on the driveway. My car is garage kept(hopefully that helps a bit more).

While I agree with your proposal, its going to be nearly impossible to blame the chip since I put on 8400 miles ago and it never happened since. Plus, now that I drive 2 miles back and forth from work, I wont be putting on that many miles moving forward. That being said, Im looking to sell the car in July anyway.

Things go south. Chip may not have had an issue for those 8400 miles, but now it does. Rule it out since it's the easiest thing to eliminate as you start problem solving. That said, I tend to agree with you that it's unlikely that's the source of your problems. I've had that ACC warning pop up numerous times on my old 2013 A6, and that car wasn't modified. I've also seen posts here in the past where all of those errors popped up and some of those cars weren't modified. Do a search and you might be able to locate those posts to see how they were resolved. Dealership visit, while all of those warnings are lit up is your best bet, but I realize that can be difficult to time, and even more so when they all vanish later on.

I may just take the chip out anyway and sell it considering my two mile commute doesnt even get the car warmed up anymore.

It's not impossible to blame anything... A "chip" can go bad, like any other electronic component can. First rule of troubleshooting, never assume or eliminate any possibility, until you positively eliminate it.

It's an approach worth trying, at the very least if the alarm comes back in then you already have the chipped pulled off, and can take right to the dealer with the faults.
Arguing with an engineer is a lot like wrestling with a pig... After a couple hours you realize the pig likes it.
