    Considering a Vinyl Wrap

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello, I have a '16 S7 Mythos Black w/Black optic package. Considering getting it wrapped. I think the flat/matte ones I have seen look awesome. What are the potential downsides to the flat finishes OR wrapping in general.

I had mine wrapped since day 1 mainly for the protection but I just loved the look of the Matte wrap. I think the XPEL Stealth on your ride would look amazing. There really are no downsides to doing it other than finding someone to do it right. You MUST find one that is reputable and does it the right way (i.e. remove taillights, emblems, door handles, etc.)

After having mine about 6 months now, it has def done what its supposed to do as far as protection. Best part is if I get bored from the matte wrap in the next year or so I can just remove it and have a brand new car all over again.

Quality of installation and costs are probably the biggest issues. I got a quote the other day for my S6 and it was $6200 for Xpel stealth. I'm not sure what the cost would be for one of the colored films, but $6200 was way beyond my price point. Done right, like chudiddy's car, it's definitely a good look.

Thanks I was thinking it would be about 5-6K. If it's on there for 3-4 years does it become problematic to remove? I'm in Florida so obviously crazy hot

In Canada, even with a relatively mild winter, I've had problems with mine despite the fact that I went to a reputable shop that does very high-end vehicles.
There are dozens of small (white) markings on the hood and front grill/bumper area from small stones from highway driving (my car's original colour is white and now has frozen black vinyl wrap). It also looks as if the vinyl is starting to disintegrate on the door handles around the sensors because you can, again, see sections of white paint underneath. The car doors make a creaking sound which means they didn't reinstall the doors properly after removing them to wrap the car. Also, the wrapping completely screwed up the sensors at the front of the vehicle when they removed the front bumper to wrap it. The vehicle displayed errors (ACC and Brake Guard Unavailable) and my Audi dealer had to reset the calibration.

I'm not sure I would get the car wrapped again. If so, I would get a colour that's similar to the original paint colour. And make sure they do not fully remove the front bumper.
