    Exhaust decision help

I narrowed it down to either the AWE Touring or AWE Track using the stock downpipes. I can't decide between the two because I'm such a damn stickler for the sound I want.

I found this video recently and the owner tells me it is an AWE Touring with stock downpipes, which I can't believe but love the sound. Anybody have any clue if this is the general sound because it sounds like this owner went with either the resonated or non-resonated downpipes. Any thoughts?

I see you have a DSG from your sig, just keep in mind that if you decide to go with non-res downpipe, you're gonna have some issues with drone....unless that doesn't bother you much or you're always in M mode. That said, AWE touring with res-dp is a tad tame but sounds amazing under WOT. Perfect combo for a DD.

How about AWE Touring with the stock DP on a 6MT? Any drone there?

i have a DSG b8.5 and i debated over which exhaust set up to get for a while bc i didn't want anything tooo loud (track) but didn't want the modified exhaust to be a slight step up from stock which is way to quiet. SO....i ultimately went with AWE touring and kept my stock downpipes, best decision EVER. i absolutely LOVE the sound, its has low end rumble, it has high pitch scream at/near redline, the shift farts sound amazing. its perfect. AND, keep in mind you can always do a non red DP in the future if you want more loud. Win win situation imo.

The AWE touring, with stock DP's is sweet. great sound and loud enough, without being obnoxious .... hope this helped ! i wish i read this post when i was debating LOL

PS- there is drone with stock DP's but its nothing unbearable. its really not a big deal and its only when you are holding certain gears for a while.

I can second this. Installed the Touring about a month ago and I kept the stock DPs. For me, the sound is very nice - loud without being obnoxious. I have not really experienced any drone; however, I always (99.9% of the time) shift manually and usually run a gear or two below the gear that would be selected in S mode.

Nope, no drone issues with 6MT that I've heard of.

AWE Touring with AWE resonated Downpipes. That is what I have and its awesome. Its quiet and not to loud but when you lean into it, it gets loud for you. But I would get that exhaust for starters. If you want it to be louder just remove the rear mufflers. That's the only difference between the touring and the track exhaust they take out the rear mufflers.

+1. I ran the Touring exhaust with stock DPs for a while and am happy I added the resonated pipes. Just a notch more civilized inside the cabin at lower revs than the stock DPs. Still some boom with throttle as you pass through the 2k RPM range, but not as bad as with stock DPs. I would not call it a "subtle" or "quiet" set up though. It is significantly louder than stock and definitely attracts attention, both good and bad.

I have AWE touring with stock DP's.

It sounds good but there is minor drone on 7th gear highway cruising under ~2800 rpm. It isnt bad enough for me to get annoyed.. or I can always cruise on 6.

Thanks for replies everyone. I'm not worried about the drone at all since I usually either drive in sport or manual mode. Since I've had my S4 for about 10k miles now, I really miss the sound of my old car, which was a highly modified MK4 R32 (cams, P&P head, Supersprint headers, intake, and about 124 lb in weight reduction) and that was a blast to drive, especially for an N/A motor. Anyway, it looks like I will be ordering the AWE touring.

I have DSG and recently installed AWE with stock downpipes the drone is minimal cruising on the highway but again we all have different tolerance.

As for the sound wow I couldn't be happier the exhaust screams as soon as you hit the throtle since the install my gas consumption when up:)

AWE Touring with Res Downpipes. I would talk with Mops. He can get you a very good price direct from AWE.

yea. All i meant was if you drive it like grandma you notice its there but its not loud at all. maybe like 2 steps above stock. But its like a factory ferrari exhaust. But yes with the Touring and res downpipes almost 0 drone.

regardless of which one you get. Do not order one to build. I ordered my track version and AWE is really backlogged. See if you can find one that is already in stock. like at modbargains for example.

AWE all the way. You can easily cruise on the highway for hours without getting a drone-induced headache, or you can lean into the throttle and turn heads left and right. Pair it up with a RocEuro or CTS Turbo intake and the sound is intoxicating at higher RPM's. Supercharger whine + screaming exhaust = I've had a crisis!

I would go with the AWE touring. It isn't obnoxious when you're casually driving around town, and then sounds means as hell when you get on the throttle. It's the perfect balance :)
