    dreaded 1545 code on AEB

So I'm posting this for a friend of mine... he has a 99 A4 and is throwing a 1545 code. Now i did research as much as i could.... We scanned it with vagcom and could not do a tb adaptation. On vagcom it comes up error. Now he did change the tb thinking it was bad. We unplugged the one in the car and plugged the old one in to see if that one was adjustable and same ERROR message. Now this ERROR message is in 060 i believe. honestly forget off the top of my head..

So I've been doing some research and people say the tb could be shot or the ECU could be bad. Now we did get the car started up and if we hold the car a little past idle from the tb but it will shut off once we touch the gas pedal.
Also, we did try disconnecting the battery and ECU and still no go.

can anyone point me in the right direction before i start making him buy stuff he may or may not need.

    as always much appreciated.

Check the continuity of the wiring from ecu connector to throttle body connector with a multimeter. If all wiring is good and you know the second throttle body is good, then it is the ECU.

just fixed this problem on my 98. remove the black plastic that covers the servos , open it up, and turn the throttle position potentiometer back and forth with a screwdriver until you find the sweet spot and can clear the code. If the throttle body is old its probably on its way out so this may or may not work. I know it bought me a few months before I ended up replacing it anyways. If it doesn't work you can pick up a refurbished tb for ~80 on amazon.

Problem is, the ECU records the tb error, but it won't do a adaptation of there's an error. The error is stored in the throttle body, so as soon as there is communication between the ECU and the TB, it reports itself in error. The challange then becomes getting the throttle body to clear its status so that you can get the ECU to do an adaptation. I've fought this on my car.

After reading a number of DIYs, I opened up the guts of the TB as Rampid mentioned. I q-typed the contact ring carefully. What I noticed though is there the needle has like teeth that actually contact the conducive strip. Mine has three traces where the contacts had basically scraped through the conductive strip. While I wouldn't recommend it because of how fragile things are... I attempted to bend the needle such that contacts reached fresh material of he conductive ring.

I pulled the negative and positive off the battery and connected them together to completely drain the system of all power, got everything plugged up and touched the positive lead to the negative lead once more, hooked the battery back up and was then able to clear the tb error code and then was able to do a tb adaptation .

This was my experience... Your mileage May vary
