    Xpel install tomorrow

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I am moving down to Tampa and will be leaving on Monday to start the journey. I figured before I drive down there I wanted to get some protection from rock chips and the like. I found a local xpel factory trained installer and will be getting just the front bumper done tomorrow. Is there any questions that I should be asking after install or any advice from the people that have had it done. I have read a couple different threads on the subject but wanted to get some more recent opinions. Thanks in advance!

I would recommend also getting the hood and front fenders as well.

Make sure the edges are wrapped for a clean look, otherwise there'll be a visible line on the edge of wherever you had it applied.

If you are going to Albert at Block A Chip then you are in good hands. He did mine. Just tell him to wrap all edges.

Yes I will be going to block a chip, not to sound stupid but what do you mean by edges? Would the normally not tuck the film around?

Usually the film is cut flush with the edges so you can see where it ends and it won't protect the edge. You can ask for the film to wrap around the edges for a cleaner look and added protection. My installer charged a small additional fee to wrap edges which I think was well worth it as edges are protected and seams are minimal.

I'm not a fan of the bikini wrap (half hood/fenders/etc). Spend a little extra, it's worth it.

Also (and most people don't know this), Xpel is a porous film (it breathes) and also self-heals. There is no such thing as a perfect application. There will ALWAYS be some small bubbles/etc. when the film is applied. Allow the film 2-3 weeks out in the sun to cure and "gas-out" the bubbles, and it will look perfect. Small visible bubbles will automatically work themselves out.

DO NOT confuse small bubbles with stretch-marks or wrinkles as neither will progressively work themselves out.

TAKE PICTURES and congrats on the purchase!

I am not a fan of that as well, I will be doing the entire hood and fenders when I get down to florida. I have to drop almost 3k for the move on sat so I will be tapped from buying car parts for the rest of the month. I at least wanted the bumper done before I drive down. thanks for the advice also! Really don't want to screw it up and have to pay to get it redone. I am sitting in the waiting room now.... fun times

if you plan to get it redone after you move i would just do the entire hood and your quarter panels.

do the front bumper after you get to florida, since its plastic if you do get any chips these can be easily fixed with touch up paint and covered in xpel after, your hood and quarters are metal and should be protected first and foremeost...

slightly OT, if you have rock chip on your headlight already, can a layer of xpel fill those imperfection and make it smooth again ?

Sounds like your crunched for time but you should have a full paint correction before wrapping.
