Looking to pick up a used S6

Whats up guys. I'm looking to pick up a used S6 either this year or early next year. So I just had a few questions..

    1. any issues with higher mileage? like 50k and up
    2. any serious differences between a 2013-2014-2015?
    3. is running a apr tune at 50k miles an ok idea? I dont see why not but just wondering..
    4. any major services or issues with these cars I should be wary of?

The idea of having this car is awesome just because of bang for buck performance after getting a tune and ofcourse the AWD. Living in NY has narrowed my search for cars quite a bit.

If anyone could help that would be great. Seriously looking forward to picking one of these things up.

i sold my 2013 S6 in august for $42k, had 36miles and one year left on the original warranty. maybe it was because my car was a first year model, but I didn't have the best luck with the car. the fuel line popped (later causing a recall) mine was supposedly the first car in N/A that it happened to. I was 150 miles from home and stranded. they replaced it with a new, but the same faulty part. had to get it replaced again some months later after they re-designed it. the coolant lines feeding into the turbo leaked and were replaced. had an EPC light and loss of power, car went into limp mode, don't really recall what they did to fix that. car over heated and spilled coolant out everywhere, waterpump and t-stat were replaced, again leaving me stranded and having to wait hours for audi roadside. the last time was the t-stat failed again, after having it changed from a failure before and coolant spilled out everywhere again. I was stranded and had to call roadside which takes hours. navi screen got stuck and they replaced something to fix it. that pretty much sums up all my problems/experience with the s6. I loved the car when everything worked, but after something breaking and leaving me stranded 3 times, enough was enough. i sold my s6, (4th audi) and moved on to a different brand. I would never, ever own this car without some sort of warranty/extended warranty. or have deep pockets, because parts and labor to work on this car isn't cheap.

    1. Only 40k on my '13, but running solid so far. One check engine light issue which is triggered whenever the car idles for a while, particularly in cold weather (think car wash while drying). Code refers to a fuel pressure issue; will be bringing it up again with the dealer at the 45k.
    2. None that I'm aware of. Believe the facelift occurred for MY16.
    3. Tuned mine after the 25k service. No issues so far. My above CEL issue pre-dates the tune.
    4. A few TSB's out there. Do a search. Harsh downshift from 3rd to 2nd in Sport mode. HUD display randomly dims at times. Turning it off and then back on seems to fix it. Recently my LCD screen will occasionally raise after a short delay. Other days it zips right up. Slight delay when launching the car after a quick stop. May be a TSB for this. Will be reporting it at the 45k as well.

    1. Not so far. We've seen them with 100k tuned miles in Europe with no issues.
    2. 2015 had a few changes to the ECU, but nothing major
    3. It's an awesome idea
    4. There have been a few TSBs on them, but nothing major and I believe they're all sorted now. The majority of our customers have had good luck with them.

The car is a beast. I get a smile on my face EVERY day driving it.

Have you had any issues with warranty service after the tune?

no warranty services yet. I did my 35k maintenance service after getting tuned, but my service adviser was aware of the tune and confirmed with the tech that the spec-actual scan (or whatever it's called) did not need to be run on my car for that service. When I brought up my CEL issue, she advised that based on her chat with the tech, they would have to scan the car, so my plan is to return to stock prior to that visit, which is about 4k miles away.

Have a 2013 s6. no issues whatsoever, even since the APR tune, running great at 30k. service writer knows it has APR tune and respects it. Just ordered a new 2016, (only cuz I didn't get the b&o stereo on the first one) gonna take it straight in for the tune as soon as I pick it up. Go for it!!!

Anyone else with more info on MY13 ownership?
I'm looking into one but seems like it already has 14 service records. The price is right and the mileage is pretty decent at 40k.
Some more insight would be nice from you guys

My '13 S6 now has 22k on it (Unitronic tuned at 17k) with no issues. The first year I did have the TCU/ECU harsh shifting issue addressed via TSB, the fuel line recall done, and the turbo coolant line leak repaired under TSB. I haven't done anything service related but change oil/filter and get it inspected. I do recommend a second set of winter wheels and tires if you plan to drive it when it gets cold and sloppy. Waiting for the summer Pirellis to wear out to move to Michelin PSS tires. I have already blown out one summer tire and bubbled a winter one on the roads of PA, NJ, and NYC. 35 series tires do not like potholes!

It's been a great car: powerful, plenty of luxury, well engineered, but remember this is still a 4500 lb car and it will not dance around as lightly as an M3 or S4. You quickly realize you need more road for this car. We don't have the quality or length of highways here in the NYC metro area to fully utilize the car's potential. That's not to say unexpectedly hitting 100+ on an on ramp or routine pass isn't fun, but you quickly learn to measure out the power given the roads and traffic in the area.

The '13 was the first year of this build, so the issues are well known. A good service history and a responsible previous owner go along way. Check the car out with your Audi SA. They can run the VIN and tell you everything that was done. Look for patterns and things that are odd in the service history. Doo your homework and have fun!

Get a CPO car so you will have peace of mind. I got my 2013 S7 a year and a half ago 42k miles, CPO, for $54k. Loving every minute of it but a 5 seater would be nice from time to time.

2013 S6 with 67k. Got the APR tune at around 5k miles and it has been bulletproof. It makes an amazing car extraordinary. Merging onto the highway is a blast in this car. If you can find one with a launch counter that reads zero (like mine) and has had regular service from an Audi dealer or reputable independent shop, you can buy with confidence.

I had the coolant line issue that was replaced without fanfare during an early oil change. Other than that, no issues whatsoever. Between the sleeper performance capabilities, comfortable interior (comfort seats with massage feature are a great touch), and intelligent electronics, it is a complete vehicle.

Good point on the LC counter, I'll bring in my cable on my next appointment.
I've had terrible luck with potholes in Nyc, I've been through Atleast 3 tires running 35s on my stockers, I'm planning to swap my LW summer wheels over. Thanks guys I appreciate it !
