    Info on test pipes?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Its hard to find any information on test pipes for the B8 platform online. I know 034 and JHM both make test pipes for ours cars. Couple of questions on them for anyone with more experience:

    1. Will it add any power to a stage 2 car? I know APR has a test pipe file but I am not sure if it is a different map or just eliminates the CEL. The manufactures claim 30+ HP but that seems doubtful.

    2. Wondering if it will sound too raspy. Right now I have an AWE touring exhaust on stock downpipes and I love the sound. Will it be too much drone to handle? I know my current setup has almost no drone.

    3. How hard is the install? I have heard mentions of having to riase the motor to install them and that sounds like a huge pain.

Any other personal experiences or comments will be helpful in my choice to purchase them.

AWE has non resonated DP's also... Is this same as test pipes?
It does not adds power. Only increases noise.
You will get drone by doing non res DP's - especially given you have DSG.

Test pipes are different than the downpipes, downpipes have resonators and the test pipes will be replacing the catilytic converters. I believe the test pipes would be the piece before the downpipes

    1) Yes it will add power with the proper tune. How much power, and if it's worth the money is up in the air.

    2) It will drone and it will make you hate driving on highways. The drone is horrible, don't let anyone tell you any different. It does sound full race car at WOT though.

    3) The install costs more than the actual pipes on dsg cars. Trans has to be dropped, beware. If you don't need it, don't do it.

    0/10 would not do again.

I don't see how they couldn't add power. There's alot of restriction in a stock catalyst, more so than the rest of the exhaust.

That being stated, it will make the car louder, and stinky.

Pretty much +1 except I'd probably go with the eurocode headers instead (I have 034 test pipes).. Heard jones2012s4 car with headers+AWE and I quite like how that sounds from 1-2.5k rpm which is where my car is VERY raspy, above 3k our cars sound very similar...

I would not recommend this for a daily driver. It is literally RACE CAR loud at WOT and really loud above 2.5k rpm. APR ran the 034 pipes on their race car...

Stock cats are very restrictive so you are increasing flow considerably.. Also reducing temps in that area... Though I'm going to say they dont provide significant power from my 1/4 mile testing

I don't regret my decision. Adds to the theater of the car... I pretty much always have it on the race gas map so I feel the race car noises are fitting

Here are a couple crappy vids of AWE track + 034 TP:

It does sound pretty good from outside the car. I am wondering if the drone would be bearable with the touring AWE version. The touring is a bit quite for me, I would like to go louder but not have unbearable drone

It sounds really good on the cold startup. How's the drone and are you 6mt or dsg?

Don't forget you will fail emissions with sniffer/visual with test pipes!

I had test pipe on my A4, loved the sound, but it was loud and a bit droney. Liked the smell. It was worth it. But, if you want comfort, and no hassle, don't do it. I wouldn't do it on this car.

6mt. It does drone a bit and sometimes it gets annoying.

Are there any gains from the headers?

Florida doesnt have emissions, I like the smell but only thing that would be a little concern is the sound and if it is droney

Throttle response is one thing but making a significant gain in power is very different. We've beaten this to death over the years.

There are marginal gains to be had from headers and even test pipes. But when you look all the acceleration data (1/4 mile testing, vbox etc) that's been done so far, the cars with LT headers/test pipes really aren't any faster than those with stock cats/HFC's... Cat deletes and catbacks are purely for sound on these cars as it has been evidenced time and time again...
