How does the B8 2.0T s-tronic handle tuning?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Seeing how K04s, F23s and even the mighty EFR are nearing maturity, more daily driver power is now easier than ever. But how does the rest of the driveline hold up with the level of power now available to us?

Is there any for instance any experience with s-tronic transmissions at 300 whp? Is anyone in here running a tuned car with this transmission?

Someone said the transmission in the 2.0 TFSI 211 hp is the same as on the S4, does anyone know if this is correct. In my opinion, it would be a great combination with a larger turbo because the quick shifts and keenness to use high revs would hide any trace of additional lag.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe any U.S. Spec B8 ever had an S-Tronic option. Someone from outside the U.S. would probably have a better idea.

I thought all tips for the B8 and B8.5 were ZFs (6 and then 8). I didn't think S-Tronic was an option for our cars, US or ROW spec.

According to Wiki, the UK and European markets received an S-Stonic variant as a selectable option. Not sure how long it ran for though.

    Transmissions[edit]
In 2009, Audi announced the seven-speed dual-clutch S tronic transmission as option for A4 in UK and European markets.[45]

All A4L models include Speed 8 multitronic continuously variable/manual transmission, except for A4L 3.2 FSI quattro, which includes Tiptronic automatic transmission.

Volkswagen settled a class-action lawsuit in 2013 involving the failures of the CVT transmission in its Audi A4 and A6 automobiles for model years 2002–2006[46]

That's crazy. Learn something everyday! Guess a European member would be better suited to answer OP's question then.

I wonder if it would even be possible to import and swap? I wonder if it would even be worth it? The 8 Speed ZF seems to be holding up pretty damn good.

For that info, maybe look at the S4 section?

I run just south of 300whp with my 3.0TDI, around the 650nm mark. No issues so far, but then again - i dont launch at every intersection either.

Here's an option if you ever decide you need more power and you are Worried the Stronic can't handle:

Really Don't think the dsg can handle the torque or is as robust.... Alot of s4 guys have had mechatronics issues...

I'm no expert, but the BMW 335s are running the same ZFs as our A4s, the new B9 S4s are running ZFs, the RS7 is running a ZF, and the DSG is getting relegated to the A4s on the B9 chassis. To me this says a lot.

Pretty much the same zf8hp55 in the 3 series.. And that's a turbo inline 6... Long term reliability seems like Audi is banking on the 8 speed for the b9 s4... I see well over 450 lbs torque rating for that transmission... Was very surprised they went with a new version of the dsg for plan Jane b9 a4 models... Audi doesn't expect the mass majority of buyers to increase their engine torque well over 300,lbs

So if I'm reading correctly, the b8 8 speed tip tronic transmission is coded ZF. Now I've been trying to figure out if my car has launch control. It should if I have this trans?

To be fair, the mechatronic issues have nothing to do with engine power. It's analogous to a broken shifter mechanism.
