    265's or 275's?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
For my summer setup on the S6, I have 20x9 ET47 wheels. I'd love to go with 275's for maximum grip, but not sure if those will work/rub and if 275/35 or 275/30 would be the way to go. I'm VAGCOM lowered currently.

    Thoughts?

    TIA,

You'll find a lot of members running 265 PSS's on 9" wheels on their A/S6's. Haven't seen many run 275's, but I think there are a few.

Seems like I could go 295's or 305's without any rubbing. The 275-30-20's will be a little shorter than stock and the 275-30-20's a little taller than stock. Don't think it's going to make too big a difference one way or the other.
Never seen anyone run 285's on a 6 body, care to post some pictures and wheel specs to benefit the community?

I am running 275/30 but my wheels are 21x9. Fast4DR S6 is running 285/30/21 with no issues.

I currently have 275-35/20's on my 2013 S6 with Velos 20 x 10 ET 40 wheels. When hard in the turns, the outside front will rub slightly if you hit a bump. I've only heard it rub when lowered 10 mm from stock, and only when in the turns. The back never rubs at all, and the front never rubs when going straight.

The tire rubs on the little fender liner portion that sticks out with the fastener in it. If you look right in the top of your wheel will you will see it.

It becomes a lot easier when you're running RS6 front fenders and heavily modded rear fenders

Do you believe that's the only area where it rubs? Sounds just like on the RS4, where you can simply remove that clip as the surrounding ones hold the liner in place just fine.

avish, the S7's fenders allow for a wider setup than the S6. I had a choice of ordering 275's for only $23 more than the same tire in 255, but opted for the 255 because I too am concerned about rubbing. I'm lowered 10mm via VAGCOM. I'm also assuming the wider tire will result in reduced MPG's, though that's a small consideration given the performance capabilities of the car.

Same deal - I ran 21x9.5 ET30 with 265/30/21 and had some rub on the clip; I removed the clip on both sides and bent the tab up just a little for more more room. I'm running the same setup but with ET35 now and no rub, even with 15mm VAG-COM lowering. The fender liner stays put just fine.

Aggressive??? This is a more conservative offset than stock. The wheel face will only be 4.35mm further out than the stock 8.5" wheels with a 45mm offset. Plenty of room in there !!

I have two sets of aftermarket wheels. One is 20x9 ET 35 and the other is 20x9.5 ET39. Both have 265/35/20 Michelin PSS tires.

You can fit 275 on a 9" wheel, but it is not optimal IMO. I would go with a 265/35/20 tire. The handling limits of this car are not even close to stressing these tires. In fact, if I were you, I would go with a 265 tire and run a 12mm spacer as well. Keep in mind also, that some 265 tires will be wider than some 275 tires.

Here is a fitment shot of the 20x9 wheel ET35mm with 265/35/20. Lowered about 15mm.....

My bad.. I thought the chasis and overall clearance with fenders etc would be the same for the S6 vs 7. Mine is an A7 though :) not an S7.

I do think that the clip is the only point rubbing but I don't know how I could confirm that. Perhaps letting the air out of the bladder with the wheel turned?

I've got 265/35 on a 20x9 ET25. In the 31K miles I've put on this setup, I've rubbed in the front maybe 5 times. It only happens when I hit a big dip or bump in a sharp turn at speed. I'm currently lowered about 10mm via VAG. I would think 275 on an ET47 wouldn't be any worse than my setup.

Just curious how it worked out. I've been scouring the forums for clear answers on wheel fitment that will clear 275/35r20's. I'd like to confirm two things.

    1) On the OEM 20" wheel they will fit with no rub (inside or outside rub)

    2) What aftermarket wheel fitment would allow me to run them. I was thinking about 20x9.5 ET35, or a 20x9, I really don't like the stretched tire look...

I think I'm going to go with the Michelin PSS in 275/35r20. Looking for wheels now, really just like the S7 20x9 off the 2014's and 15's. Maybe I'll find a set of take-offs for a deal. Have ordered custom forged before...not ready for that again.

I am running the same size tire 275/35/20 on a 20*10.5 but on a S7 and the stretch is barely noticeable
