    Side Assist Turns Itself Off

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've noticed that the side assist on my '13 S5 turns itself off occasionally. It has happened enough that I am certain it is not from the button being pushed inadvertently on entering/exiting and also not because the button was pressed during cleaning.

The default is 'on' in the MMI.

    Anyone else have this experience?

Dealer replaced the module on my 2012 S4 to resolve this.

Have this happen a lot in my '13 RS5. But my mirrors are wrapped, so I think that may be it. The message says "sensors blocked". You guys getting the same message?

Usually only happens to me when I'm sitting in traffic on the freeway. #405 #LA It doesn't reset until I turn off the car, but after that it's good to go.

This is a known bug in the software. In heavy traffic the system eventually fails to track the cars around you. To turn it back on you have to restart the engine or the traffic has to be clear for 10 minutes. There's a TSB for it to update the software. The sensors are behind the rear bumper and if you have your rear bumper wrapped, then they won't do the software update. Ask me how I know. I just live with it. I don't find myself in traffic that often and I don't rely on the side assist at all. It's a bit of a gimmick to me personally and I just use it as an extra piece of mind. Sometimes when it turns off, I forget to turn it back on and I don't even realize for several days. Wasn't worth it to me to remove the rear bumper wrap, get the software fix and then reapply the wrap.

Had the same problem soon after getting the A5.....it would shutdown due to a faulty sensor at odd times.

If I stopped and cycled the ignition it would correct it for a while, but always came back.

Turned out to be the control module anyway, not a sensor.

Warranty covered a new control module and they did the software update at the same time.

Haven't had a problem since this was done.

When was this TSB/software update released? My car is a '16, and this has happened to me.

Long time ago. My car is a 2013 and I had them look at the issue not too long after I got the car. I would expect that a 2016 would already have this update.

I've gotten that error on my 13 allroad. We haven't had the 15 A5 long enough yet for it to happen. On allroad it happens when I've been driving the car for 2-3 hours without stopping. More frequent when it's raining but it's happened in sunny weather too. Had it a checked by dealer awhile back with no error identified.
