    Tesla Model 3

Hello - curious if any Audi folks are giving the Tesla Model 3 some thought once its available late in 2017 or 2018? Doubt many are looking to replace their S4 with one, but perhaps as another addition to the garage? Anyone going to the unveiling on Thursday night, or planning to stand in line to put a deposit down on Thursday morning? Is it going to live up to the hype?

Been doing some reading on the Tesla forums, but I'm always curious to get the thoughts of fellow Audi owners!

I'm looking at the Tesla Model 3, waiting to hear more details though.

Good luck. Only existing Tesla owners will be able to purchase. It will be a while after initial launch before anyone else can purchase a Model 3.

I was looking at one, but I don't think I will be of the 'iSheepish' to just go out and put a deposit down on one. The technology is great, but I was very unimpressed with the rest of the Model S for what you are paying for it. If this is a step down from the Model S (priced like an A6, interior of a Passat), I would prefer seeing one in person.

Another issue is going to be the dealer network, from all the concerns around here, if you have a problem, there is a good chance you will be a week or more without a car...yes they might give you a replacement but there's going to a be a bad cascading effect

+1 crazy awesome technology but was somewhat disappointed with the interior when i test drove the P90D. It felt very cheap and quite simple. it's almost like they put the biggest touchscreen possible to distract you from the rest of the interior. hahaha. Insanely fast but for what you're paying, not worth it IMO.

And the Model 3 will be super fast as well. And at a $35k price point, if same type interior, then certainly much more reasonable and worth it. But if a step-down...then jeez.

Its going to be to over priced still. But like with all things the more R&D and more demand will drive the prices lower. Still a good car for people who can write the car off on taxes. But we are moving in the right direction for a truly affordable dependable electric car that can go more than 100 miles. The price point needs to be in the 20's to really have a chance for taking off. For what Tesla offers you can get about the same car tech wise with a gas engine for much cheaper and the cost of gas over the years still be under MRSP of the Tesla.

Curious what it has in store, i thought about a model s, but that car seems too dated now to me since they havent done much exterior wise with it form the original.

actually on this too...it's an American issue, but I HIGHLY recommend before putting your deposit down you think about reading this...

Where things begin to get interesting is in the federal tax credit for EV buyers. The US government offers a credit of $7,500 for people who buy a battery electric vehicle. According to the law, however, those credits are limited to 200,000 units per manufacturer, which Electrek expects Tesla to hit in 2018. After the end of that quarter, the credit drops to $3,750 for six months, and then drops again to $1,875 for the six months following that before going away completely. Considering deliveries of the Model 3 are slated to begin in late 2017, only the earlier orders can be assured they'll get the full tax credit.

So the just of it, when you put down your deposit, make sure you are looking at it as if you WON'T get a credit from the government on your purchase. Since they are prioritizing current Tesla owners along with employees...you might be so far down the totem poll you will be paying more for the car then you expected by several thousand.

im definitely getting an ev at some point, just kind of waitng to see what the new one will look like first, and also wondering if the model s will drop in price on the used market, as i really like the roominess of the full size version, but not the price point...

I do tons of work miles, so an EV might be on my radar. But with US gas at $2 per gallon?? Doesn't add up right now.

Once again the rich get richer, since only the current Tesla owners will be able to get the initial model 3s, and then the tax credit will expire.
I would like to take a look at the car before I put money down on it, even if it is a refundable deposit.
That said, I've been following the model 3 news closely and can't wait until they become available.

I watched Motorweek and they said you could put 1000 down and reserve your 3. I also heard it was the A3,328 version and not bad for 35,000 but I'm looking for a S6 or something faster.

Convinced my grandmother to buy one for the summer house on the Vineyard. Its perfect for that purpose, its a small island 200 miles range is more than enough, gas is always more expensive because of transport to the island(currently 3/Gallon for regular there) and with federal and Massachusetts EV incentives it will be around 25K. Seems like a no brainer, Ill be preordering it Thursday.

I'm very interested to see how the Model 3 stacks up. In terms of price, acceleration, and size, the Model S competes against the A7 at various trim levels (P90D vs RS7 Performance, etc.) I wonder if the Model 3 could be going after the A3 or A4 platforms (I'm hoping to see a Model 3 trim as quick as the RS4.)
