    Light Switch Piece

    Hello,

Looking for help identifying a piece missing on my car. To the right of the light switch, the piece that adjusts the interior lights or instrument cluster (I think) in this picture.

    Thanks

That adjusts the brightness of the instrument cluster. Mine broke and ordered the part from Audi. Sorry I did not keep the packaging for the part number.

True, but my closest dealer is a bit of a drive. Also usually cheaper online.

    Nice, thank!

I wonder if they sell the knob cover and not the whole assembly, seems like a lot for just needing the knob cover.

The cluster problem is why I think you might be better off going to a dealer. It will likely be difficult for you to find an online source just selling that one knob. The alternative would be to find a totaled A/S6, but again, that might be difficult. Can you tell how that thing came off? Does it just pull out/snap back in? I can't tell from the photo, but it looks broken, and if that's the case, you may actually need that entire module.

You may be correct I may just need to take a ride out there...I am not certain how it came off, I can press it in/out and use it so I imagine it came loose and fell off easily. It's been like this since I bought the car used and of course at the time I didn't spot it before buying.

Don't drop $100 on this unless you have extreme OCD. If you push on the knob, it will deploy - It's just missing the plastic cap on the end of it. I noticed this when inspecting my CPO A7 pre-delivery and started to make a fuss until I realized it was still functional. I don't think I've needed to adjust the brightness since, but if I do, my fingertip works fine - no tool/eraser/pen cap needed. But then again, I got such a steal on the price, I didn't feel like chiseling them any more.

The ETKA system Audi uses shows the switch unit with the availability to get the little black cap loose. I have seen many that have the cover missing. I suspect that when someone leaves the knob out and when you get into the car your knee hits the knob and the part breaks off. It is a black disc with 3 very small and flimsy fingers that hold the inside of the knob.
In South Africa, the part cost R91.00 which is about $6.00

Can you provide a part number for the cap? For $6, I'll replace mine!

Hi Guys, as I mentioned in post #5, I did not keep the packaging for the part. I just went into the parts dept of my Audi dealership and they looked it up on the ETKA system and ordered it.
I was at the dealership today and there were two A7's on their floors, and both had this part missing.
    Part number. 4G0941158B.

Thanks Speedemon, this is very helpful.

I was able to find it for around $27, I'll keep searching around but that is a more reasonable price vs. spending 100+ for the entire lighting piece.

Wow, that is R404.00. That is expensive for this part. Was that from an Audi Dealer?

As I stated, it sold without Vat for R91.00 in South Africa from the dealer. I did not pay for it, they did, as they broke it. I just divided the Rand amount with the exchange rate to get the $ equivalent. It may be more expensive in the USA.
