2013 Night Vision Assist..or..

Hello all.. I'm currently in a 2008 C6, I've had it for several years and it's now on a friend's car lot up for sale. I'm making the move to a 2013 A6 and I'm trying to decide if I really want the innovation package. I'm super tech driven and I've wanted that feature since the day I first learned it existed. (I also really like the idea of a HUD,,, I'm a pilot and that stuff really winds my clock.) I realize that a lot of people consider it a gimmick, and while I partly agree I think if it could detect animals it would be completely worthwhile. So, I'm wondering if the night vision assist on a 2013 C7 can be updated with the latest feature set which is animal detection or is that something that is a hardware limitation? I know the D4's had this I think staring last year and I thought I read that the new C7 have it this year...I can't find anyone discussing updating though. If it were available via an mmi update, it would be a no-brainer, otherwise I might reconsider and I'm open to opinions on the system although that has been done before in other threads.

Unrelated to the night vision/software updating... how do you like your 6P? I have been an iPhone user since the first one but recently having been thinking about picking up an Android to play around with.

If you're "super tech driven", get it. I use the HUD all the time for the MPH display. I'm rural and the IR camera is used when I'm out after dusk. I've only had the A7 C7 for four months and have spotted three deer and a skunk on the road. I can "see" which way the road turns when going through corners and can scan the road beyond an approaching car.

I've also spotted three deer in our side yard and noted the heat leaks at the foundation of my house when parking. The one time that there was a bicycle, I spotted it at the same time as when the system issued a warning. I usually glance down at the screen to check the road ahead after cresting a hill or coming out of a corner. My passenger can easily see the screen in the dash and I think it would have been useful to display the output on the main screen.

I have it. The HUD is kinda cool (i like the MPH and the oil temp if you enable it with VAG COM). I tried the night vision to see how it worked and it is kinda cool for it to spot a person in the neighborhood, but i find it kind of distracting b/c you want to look at the screen rather than the road.

Personally, I would opt of out these and spend the $$ on something else if I were picking it out in a new car. Used? Get it b/c it is amortized in the car price which has dropped dramatically already.

6p is pretty fantastic. I'm on Project Fi with it and love it so far. The best part of it is Android 6.0. Love it.

I can't say 100% but this question has been posed before, and i don't recall ever hearing of anyone on here updating the nightvision software. I have the Innovation pkg in my current A7 as well as my previous A6. For me, the necessities were LED headlights, Adaptive Cruise, and HUD. So the Innovation pkg filled the need. I've rarely ever turned on the nightvision, even though i live in a suburban area with plenty of deer, etc....The fact that you have to take your eyes off the road makes it impractical and possibly even unsafe. I do like having it as an extra tech gimmick that's fun to play with, but i can't say it's particularly useful in it's current functionality.
