ST Coilovers vs Koni Yellow + H&R Sport

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I can get the ST Coilovers for $750 or the Koni H&R kit for $650
ST Coilovers are not adjustable and the Koni's are but only off the car.

In your opinion which should I get.

Both good setups for the $$$... I'm running ST's and like them. Also the ST's are height adjustable, you just can't adjust the dampening. I would take the ST's...they're made by KW in the same factory as the V1, V2, and V3's.

    Good luck

I hear the STs are also closer to stock suspension... So I believe I have the stock sport suspension and want a quality ride with a little more firmness and better cornering with a lower ride but not slammed. How are they with this in mind. Do they help with body roll even tho I will be buying the 034 Motorsport rear sway bar in the near future. Also is it true that with the STs are a hit or miss when it comes to long term reliability. Some say they fail down the road and have to be rebuilt. Any truth to all this?

My ST's where total pieces of shaw, but it all depends on what you are after, if you want adjustablilty of ride height, which imho is a total pia and a waste of time then go with coilovers, if you want a install and forget go with a good set of shocks and springs, konis where awesome when they could be adjusted installed in the car, but who want to remove them to adjust the rebound? no thanks, personally i would go with the Bilstein B12 kit, it comes in two flavors of lowering (eibach pro or sportline springs) and is around $750, and its a true install and forget kit, no removing to adjust anything.

They have a 5 year warranty. So even if they last only the 5 years, its not that bad of an investment overall.

I agree with this and will be going with the Bilstein kit.

I'm running ST and they work great for daily driving. The rear springs could be a little stiffer, but overall I'm very happy with them. Those that have had issues with ST are anomalies IMO. There's plenty of people running them without issues.

Bilsteins are also a great option, but so are the Koni/Spring setup. It all depends what you want out of the setup. I like the adjustability of coilovers. I've installed springs/shocks before and the rear ended up sagging and it looked like crap. Never again.

I think they would be about the same, the only "advantage" the konis have is that they are rebound adjustable, granted its a two hour job to adjust them so let's forget about that point.

The only difference in the b12 kits is the amount of lowering and we really can't tell you how low to go, that being said I have the sportlines and love them, perfect drop, imho.

What springs did this? Both h&r and Eibach have lifetime warranties against sagging, that said Ive used both companies and never had any issues in the past 20 years of modding.
My ST's however lasted about 2 months before they had to be sent back and rebuilt.

HR, Vogtland, weitec. After that I've just always gone straight to coilovers. Out of coilovers, I've ran bilsteins, KW, ST and HR. Out of those, i'd but KW and Bilstein at the top... granted I bought their top performance line at the time. :-)

Are the ST's bouncy at all?

Would it be better to just get S4 springs with stock a4 shocks?

no. they are a littler firmer than the OEM sport suspension. keep in mind, the lower you are with any coilover, the possibly of "bouncy" may increase. There is always a sweet spot with any setup.

doing springs with OEM shocks I would consider bouncy.

So what is the height of the fender from the ground with the b12 sportline front and rear heights. I saw a post on the b12 pro kit and the height of the fender from the ground was 25.5 in the front and 25.75 in the rear giving a small rake. I believe I have the oem sport suspension.

I've got the ST's. They're pretty nice for daily driving. Firmer than stock, but still nice to drive around day-to-day.

So I think i've decided to go with the Bilstein B12 kit. I just don't know if I should go pro-kit or sportline. I like an aggressive stance but don't want to sacrifice to much ride quality. I believe I'm leaning more towards pro-kit. How is the height on the pro-kit

For everyone's future reference, my girls car has the pro kit and I have the sportline Kit, both measurements where with 19" wheels:

    Pro kit:
    Front: 26"
    Rear: 26.5"

    Sportline
    Front: 25.5"
    Rear: 25.75"

Can't go wrong with either but the sportline spring rates are maybe 50-70lbs heavier/stiffer than the pro kit

And this month ST has the $100 mail in rebate.

Thank you for this. What is ride quality like with both setups? Preferably compared to stock sport suspension. And what kind of difference would 50-70lbs make?

This makes it tempting to choose the STs but there seems to be a hit or miss when it comes to reliability with them. 5 year warranty is enough at the price but if they do fail within that time you still have to take the time or spend the money to remove and reinstall stock. I love the adjustability for height and have been told they ride just a bit stiffer then stock which would be perfect but reliability is priority for me. I wish I had the money right now to buy the KW V1 I would probably pull that trigger. The adjustability and new price of the STs still keeps the option in my head so. But I can get the B12 pro or sport for less then $650. Tough decisions

There is no reliability issue, they sell hundreds of the ST kits and someone every once and a while has an issue that usually is caused by user error with installation or removing the helpers and lowering the coils too much. The KW V1s are the same as STs, except the KWs have stainless steel bodies instead of galvanized and a lifetime warranty instead of 5 years. And the STs are about half the price if the V1s.

So before mail in rebate what kind of price are we looking at with the STs
