    B8.5 allroad steering.

So I've had my allroad for almost 2 months and I'm about to start getting into modifications (will start a thread once I get going) and I'm noticing the steering is very strange. Now I know that the electronic steering is obviously going to feel different than the normal system I'm used too but I feel like it's not right. It's almost like going straight is difficult, as if the car wants to always be "floating" in between the lines. Now I read that going "lock to lock" before you drive helps and I think it might be, but is there any remedy to this? My allroad just crested 50k so I believe my warranty is out. Will my dealer do anything for this? Is there a potential recall on this? What can I do to help remedy this if anything?

    What year is your AR?

There was a TSB for a software update that fixed many AR's with this problem. Some of us early adopters even has steering racks replaced.

Just make sure your car has had the steering rack software update done. That part should be free. Since they did that update on my wife's allroad, the car has steered perfectly for the past two years!
Your "darting about in a straight line" is exactly the problem the Recall-update addresses.

So I can just call my dealership and ask if they will do it? Or is this something I can do with vagcom or a local shop? My nearest dealer is 50 miles away and they are f@$ing useless there tbh.

This is a dealer installed software update. It cannot be done by VAGCom.

My 2013 Allroad is just the opposite; I can let go of my steering wheel and it'll hold true for quite of bit of time.
But mine did have the steering rack TSB service completed.

Tire selection and alignment also play a large role in steering wheel true-ness.

The steering in mine is similar. It's almost as if it wants to go down the sides of the road crest sometimes. It's not unmanageable or anything, just annoying.

I read about the steering issues for early ones (mine's a 2013 as well) and had the dealer check it out as the warranty was still active. They said that the software and rack were up-to-date. So, I think the next step is to get a VAG-COM cable (or a local forum member who does) and activate the ADS. That should at least give me the ability to add some resistance to the steering if I'm understanding the forum posts correctly.
