About to pull the trigger...

Hey guys and gals, new member here... looking to get into an s4 (went test drive a few models and fell inlove) and I have been lurking a while. I found a 13' with 21k on it for $34k that I'm pretty sure I'm going to pull the trigger on... my only concerns, I put around 3-4k miles a month, which I will probably split some with the truck also. Looking at extended warranties also, buttttt I'm on the fence as I'd love to tune/pulley/exhaust/intake. Any issues with using these as "high mileage" vehicles? Only thing left to check on the one I want is the sport rear.

Is the one you want a CPO? I would look for that if you're worried about high milage. Check on what maintenance has been done first. If it's DSG get Audi Care if you can.

I checked the carfax, looks like it was even brought to the dealership just too get washed/detailed every couple thousand miles... unfortunately it's not a cpo,but was thinking of going ext warranty

That's one of the worst things for the paint is to have the dealer wash it. I don't know anything about ext warranty but there is quite a few on here that know a fair amount.

This is the car in reference... I want to check for the sport diff, the local dealership is supposed to call if they get one they can certify, of course with a nominal fee.. they have a 2013 with more mileage that's silver they are offering to certify for around 43k otd, just not fond of silver on these cars.

That car looks nice. Its already lowered and the pics are shitty, but it appears to have a set of BBS CH-R wheels. Who knows, it might already have an intake under the hood and an exhaust. Maybe even a tune. Theres a reason why they can't/won't certify it, and I wouldn't be surprised if the mods are the reason.

So your questions to the dealer should be:

What suspension is it lowered on
Does it have an intake
Does it have an exhaust
Do you know if its been tuned

I don't know much about adding an aftermarket warranty, but I know that you can't tell them its modded. Maybe the dealer will hook you up with the aftermarket company they use, as opposed to the Audi CPO.

Its deff lowered. And non factory rims. If they are real BBS's thats a good deal for them. Also I dunno if you want to consider an S4 if your going to be racking up that many miles a month on it. Unless you don't care about the money your going to be spending on it and you can write off cost on the S4. Or if you just want an enjoyable car to drive since you drive a lot. I guess just make sure its the right decision for you. I would check to see if the car is tuned.

Pretty much the latter... I've gotten rid of 2 other toys because of lack of time to use,figured I'd spend the money on something I can enjoy daily. Service department should be able to tell me of the car is td1 right?

Then the S4 is for you then. you will truly enjoy it. I enjoy mine every time i get in mine. Even though its only 1 or 2 times a week. But yes they should. But you might want to take it to another local audi dealer if you have one to get an un basis answer. Or just get the vin before you ask them and call AOA on the full warranty history. And if its marked TD1 i would get them to send you an e-mail stating that and take that in to the dealer for more bargaining power and get them to lower the price some.

Intake is stock...car has an exhaust, lowered, bbs and tinted. Car looks good and if the services were done at the dealer, on time, go for it. It should still have a factory warranty so as long as it's still active, you're not td1.

Wow, lol, called aoa, they are literally 24/7, car has been flagged, suspension ecu and exhaust is what they have on file, so no warranty. Love the car, just not sure if that is a gamble I'm willing to take, and im sure there is no way to really find out what tuning is on it

Dealer has the ability to flash ecu back to stock and COP the car as if it never had a tune.

Seems like you need to compare total cost of this car plus a good extended warranty versus the equivalent CPO car. I'm assuming the cost of an equivalent 6yr/100k extended warranty would be pretty stratospheric, but don't know. Even if Audi allowed it, (I have my doubts...) backing out all the mods on this car (wheels, suspension, exhaust, reflash) and certifying as CPO probably would not make financial sense for the dealer given what they have in the car already. As someone said above, you might be able to negotiate a good deal on an extended warranty, though.

But, given the way you plan to use the car, my gut would be to walk away and look for an equivalent CPO car. You should be able to find a CPO with 20-30k miles for well under $40k.

seems like a good price for the year and mileage, have a pre-purchase inspection done and if it passes the sniff test, give it a go!

I think I'm going to give the shop that did all my work on my gli a call, part of his deal was if he tuned/did the work to it he would honor the ext warranty, and then see what I can get an ext warranty for... pending that the hunt may still be on

Also,the in service date of the car was 06/12, so regardless the factory warranty only had 2 months left
