    Rear speaker install?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey all, is there some magic to removing the rear speakers? I have a "Concert" System. how do you pull up the rear speaker grills on the rear deck? Does the whole rear deck need to come out? How about the fron door panels? Any tricks other than the visible screws?

you have to pull the entire rear deck out(the speaker grills and permanently connected to it). just lift up on it and pull back. thats all i did. after that i left it, it was good enough to move around without undoing the seatbelts. after this, then you can get to the speakers and unscrew them.

why you taken them out? are you replacing them?

thanks fo the tip Rob! Yeah I'm replacing them. I'm also replacing the fronts and adding a sub. All this will be running off of 2 amps; a 2 ch. and a 4 ch. Oh and I'm keeping the stock hu. Looks like I just blew a fuse so I don't think I'll need yours...for now..... It's a long story but when I bought the car the CD changer was broken so I never realy listened to music in it much. then I got a Phatnoise Phatbox and I really noticed that all the factory speakers were blown. So I figured what the heck and now I'm replacing all the spaekers. I'm also building a fiberglass box....I post pics of the install. I'm just doing the taping today....

no problem 94jedi. i just installed my stereo sytem about 2.5 months ago. it was my first time, so i had a cousin help me. my install is beautiful. ill try to port pics this weekand. my amp-rack i made is awesome. i think i did a very good job, especially for my first time.

what size speakers are you running? i have extra sets of speaker adapters. i had to order them from europe.

im running 5.25" in front and 6.5" in the back. 1 12" sub, and 2 amps. one is a mono for the sub and a 4 chanel for the mids.

I'm going with nearly the same setup but with a 10" sub and instead of a mono amp, the one I'm using for the sub is a 2 ch. I don't think I'll need the adapters because I'm going to re-wire the whole car. I know it's a major PITA but I figure it's a worthwhile upgrade. How does your system sound? I'd love to see pics of the whole setup. Post them if you can or just email'em to me.

yeah. ill try to post them up this weekand. i rewired everything as well, but to make it easier we ran the rear speakers straight to the amp.....if i remember correctly. the stock rear for the concert has a small amp around the magnet on the drivers side, and because of that it has a strange 6 pronged wire harness thing. i only ran the wire in the car, i didnt hook it all up because it was a lot of wiring.....not for beginners.

even if you rewire the entire car, you can only fit 4" in the front, and 5.25" in the back. the adapters are so you can fit 5.25" in the front and 6.5" in the back.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead but I've got another question. In the manual it said that the fronts are 5" and the rears are 6.5" so if I buy new speakers then they need to be these exact size to fit correct? You had mentioned that you can only fit 4" in the front and 5.25" in the back unless you get adapters?

That's correct, 4" front, 6.5" in the rear. problem with the rear is the mounting method. you really need an adapter of some sort. Actually, the front needs to be "customized" as well.

Well my front passenger lower door speaker is blown I think so I was gonna replace those two for sure and I thought I may as well get rid of the Nokia rear deck speakers as well. Dunno if I really wanna so that now that it's gonna have to be customized.

i think if you have bose than your fronts are 5" and rears are 6.5". concert uses the smaller stock speakers.

im sure youve figured this out by now, but just so if someone searches the answer is out there...

to get the door panel off, there is a screw in each top corner of the panel, then there is one inside the grabhandle, once you get the 3rd screw out, the black trim that that screw came out of pops out, revealing 2 more screws.. then the only thing holding you back is wiring

Thanks for the info. I was trying to pop off just the speaker part but quit cause I didn't want to break it. So the front speaker covers are just like the rears then, fixed to the panel.

Yes, those you take off a few screws and slide the door panel up and off.
