Hey guys. I'm new here but i've had my audi for some time now. She's paid off so I can finally get her the way i visioned her when i first bought her. I've been thinking about swapping the auto transmission to manual for about five years, but could not get the info I needed until now. I've looked through some of the threads and found a lot of info that I need. The threads are a couple years old but the info should still be good right? I mean nothing should have changed other than better kits rights. The parts are still needed from how i see it. If I'm wrong please let me know. I'm going to attache a few pics of my baby. If anybody has any suggestions PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know!! (Sorry not yelling just really excited.) My car is stock and I plan on upgrading everything I possible can, but first I'm trying to keep strictly to the mechanics first and then the cosmetics. Thank you guys in advance.

Ok i just tried to attach some photos and i guess I'm not smart enough. Still learning how to use mac. i'll keep you posted.

Yea it's good not to have to make a car payment. Just thinking about all that extra money I will have now to upgrade keeps me up at night. I found out how to post the pics but they're too big. I'll resize and get them up asap. I've always wondered how it would feel driving an all road. Everyone seems really content with them.

It's a cool car. The combination of 2.7T, widebody and wagon form factor (plus most of them are well optioned) makes them pretty decent cars.

I love it. It's not the most performance oriented setup, but for driving in the midwest it's fantastic. I can go low without any of the drawbacks. I don't have to feel like I neutered my AWD wagon from any bad weather or bad road use-ability.

swapping a stick into a 2.8/3.0 seems like a fools errand considering how much it'd cost versus how much the car is worth.

congrats on getting the car paid off though! That's always a great feeling. Instead of going for performance, I'd say go more towards the cruiser outlook and get a nice suspension/wheel set up and do the interior mods

I also have a 3.0 and it's a super comfortable car, and looks really good

None of our 10+ year old cars are worth squat. Modding for me is about personalizing the cars I love and not worrying about how much it's worth.

Great feeling having no car payments.

Yea there is really going to be some serious work swapping out the transmissions but my mind is set. Unless the unfortunate happens this will be my project. I agree with you on the suspension work. This will be the first thing done before the performance. Already looking into some springs, sway bar, control arms upgrades. Should be able to knock those out by the end of the year. Any suggestions on the suspension parts. I'm going to search the forums on this topic tonite to keep me up. Midnights really know how to put you to sleep. lol

yeah i see that now **facepalm**

If that's the case then by all means!

And suspension can go any number of ways, most people go with ST coils. I have a set that I (stupidly) have not installed but everyone seems to have favorable views on them

Had to take the car to the dealer this morning after work and was told the water pump needs to be replaced. I just replaced the aux water pump like a month ago now this. i just paid $1400 bucks to get that done and now the dealer want to charge me another 1400 to replace that and the thermostat. I've been looking on ECU Tuning and have be eyeing the timing belt kit with all the parts and the tool. Guess I'm going to tackle this in the near weeks. Last thing I want is to get stranded in the middle of nowhere. ECU Tunning has a pretty good DIY manual so I should be good, just have to get all the needed tools and the time.

Ok guys need your advice on this one. I'm reading all the steps to change the timing belt and the first step is to take off the front end. The manual is pretty good on the process except it's saying I need to replace a support pin when putting the radiator into the front lock carrier position. I do not know what this support pin is or where I can find one. I'll post the pics of what it says and the part it says to use. I trying to get a list of all the tools I'm going to need to make this task as easy for me as possible. Esp this being my first time doing anything major to the car on my own. Thanks in advance.

It's only a few more steps to just remove the whole front carrier, which is what I prefer. Never a used a "support pin" for service position tho. U can prob just stick a bolt in there to support or w/e its intention is.

Edit* you'll find a lot of "use VAG special tool #whatever" in that Bentley, a lot of times u can get away with improvising, although sometimes these special tools are very helpful.
