Help pick me a powder coat color

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Here's my car. Show me what you would do. I'm looking for something like a black chrome or anthracite, something sharp. Not solid black but I need to knock-down the brightness of the wheels as they sit now.

Insight and pics or links appreciated.

Choosing a color is hard just because there are so many shades of colors to choose from. I know you stated that you wanted to knock down the brightness but what about actual gloss? Do you want a glossy or matte finish?

Are your wheels white? I actually like how they look against the brilliant black of the car body. I checked out the link AudiTechS4 shared, and that have a lot of options. I recently saw a black car body with a gunmetal grey rim and it looked really cool.

Brushed aluminum like the mirrors. I'll have to get a close up pick. Anytime the sun hits them they are bright like that.

I understand why you might want to powder coat your wheels. But should you accidentally curb one, it will be much easier to repair if it is painted. Just something to consider. BTW , my vote is for Hyper silver. I personally hate dark wheels ,more so on a dark colored car. But since you ARE looking for darker wheels, I would consider gunmetal.

I like the contrast of light wheels/dark car and dark wheels/light car.

^ good point about repairing damage. Powder coating is a more brittle, shell-like coating than paint and can chip/flake off when damaged. I would recommend painting as well.

As far as color goes, how about the color used on the OEM Audi titanium/black optics package wheels?

you're gonna laugh, but use this stuff:
    http://www.rustoleum.com/product-cat...ic-spray-paint

The wheels on my 02 Tacoma were SHOT last sprint. the clearcoat and undercoat was trashed. I figured it was worth the $40 to sand and rattle can them. Then I tried to make them fail by offloading, driving in winter salt, long hard brake runs. If they didn't last, I was gonna buy new wheels. But the paint held up. Better even than the factory coat on my S4 wheels. It still looks great. Not bad for two cans of metallic and two cans of clear.
