I put in a pair of ZKW-R lenses in the stock projectors, as recommended by TRS, and tried the lights without any spacing. Well, the image of the bulb is projected on the wall, even from 30ft away. Kind of funny actually. Anyway. I found I need to space the lens almost 1/2" to get a clean cut off line and no bulb-image-projections. The projector assembly with the bulb jams up against the ballast/rear cover and doesn't allow the auto-leveling to work properly. There's barely any movement on it's initialization compared to the untouched passenger side. Now I have an AL error. I played with spacing again and found 3/8"spacing is what I need, to fit inside the housing, with just okay light output, no cut off line, and the image of the bulb projecting about 6ft from the headlamps before the light just disperses.
Reading through the forums and everyone seems to be using the STI-R lens. The focus lengths are quite different. 22mm for the ZKW and 27mm for the STI. The STI's seem to be closer to the stock fresnel lens.
I guess what I am asking if anyone has any experience with the ZKW lens, if I am doing something wrong here or just not getting, or I am just wasting my time with the ZKW lens for the stock B6 bi-xenon's?
Thank you!
