    3.0TFSI Cooler Upgrade

For the B8 & B8.5 S4 and S5 there are a number of cooler upgrades available. But I haven't seen any advertised for the C7 A6 with the same 3.0TFSI engine.

Does anyone know of a cooler upgrade sold for the A6 3.0TFSI?

Or has anyone fitted a B8/B8.5 cooler upgrade to an A6?

The B8/B8.5 ones I've seen are:

I put the AMS Alpha cooler in my Q5. It works great. You might need to fab a bracket or two depending on the A6 layout under the hood.

For reference regarding the similarities/differences between the S4 and the A6:

    1. My C7 A6 has an engine water cooler
    2. My C7 A6 has an A/C heat exchanger
    3. My C7 A6 has supercharger water cooler
    4. My C7 A6 has the auxiliary cooler behind the fog-light grill that the B8 S4 has. (This cooler is not fitted to all S4's - the B8.5 does not have the auxiliary cooler).
    5. ADS cooler is not fitted to my C7 A6

(But curiously despite having the auxiliary cooler that only the B8 had, not the B8.5, the ECU in the C7 A6 is the SIMOS 8.5 ECU that the B8.5 S4 has.)

    From the S4 thread http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...gers-Overview:

    2. A/C fluid heat exchanger. Same observation.

    3. Supercharger water heat exchanger. It's a cooler for the S/C loop. It cools the water that have been heated in the 2 HX on each side of the supercharger. The goal is to lower IAT.

    4. Auxiliary Water cooler. Not clear on what version it is present, but I understood that it was only on early B8 models (2010-2011 ?). It is plug in the S/C loop between sc and electric the pump. It's a sort of pre-cooler for the #3. HX.

    5. The Famous "ADS Cooler". This is a heat exchanger to cool the steering fluid (oil) of versions specifically equipped with the "dynamic steering" option. It is only for the B8 models, as B8.5 models have Electric steering assistance.

    6. Engine Oil cooler. This device is attached to the engine block. The engine oil exit in this plates exchanger where the engine cooling water flows through it. The Water heats up the oil at cold start/normal driving, and then the water cools oil when spirited driving.

I'm keen to know this too and after speaking to some in the uk it's a case of getting the s5 kit and making it fit with custom pieces (brackets, hoses etc)

After tons of research on this, I found my 2012 A7 has a very similar setup to the B8 S4. Every instruction manual for the B8 products match what I see under the hood. The only wildcard would be the mounting brackets.

Also, from tons of reading, the first step from a cooling aspect I would pursue is to purchase the reservoir component from either AWE or APR and divorce the system. This part seems to be pretty simple to install and may see the biggest gain from a cooling perspective.

Just like with the AWE CF intake which showed a gain on AWE's dyno only to show a -42 WHP loss on APR's.

So you gotta take what these companies say with a grain of salt and try to do your own testing whenever possible.
Very true. The good thing about upgrading the cooling system, is that you can do things a la carte. Like divorce the system, then log, then add more shit if necessary.

    Thanks for the info.
Did the pump electrics cable fit ok? And does it log any fault code?

It fit fine, and I've never logged a code related to it with my vcds.

a 3.0T vs the 3.0T(SC) is WAAAAY different.

the C7/7.5 3.0 is the SC platform which uses the inline IC Cores within the SC itself....that unit is a FMIC for the Turbo 3.0T with the B9
