    It'll be tough to find something local (or even in the US) that is rated higher than the Curt 1.25" (http://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitch/Curt/C11169.html).

    I went though the same thing last year trying to fit a hidden/removable 2" receiver which I would use with a 4 bike rack, so it had to be something other than the Curt. Ended up ordering the Westfalia detachable hitch from PFJones (http://www.pfjones.co.uk), which was way cheaper than anything else I could find and it arrived 3 days later. Took it to a welding shop near by and it ended up being a custom install because 1) couldn't modify the swan neck to a 2" receiver (might not be applicable to you if you just want to tow) and 2) the NA rear bumper reinforcement is different than the Euro version.

    In my opinion, get the Curt and have it modified and strengthened; unless you have a bunch of money, then either get a fully custom installation or a euro hitch and bumper.

    Good Luck!

    @jpaan -

    Thanks for the feedback. I ordered a Westfalia hitch(from pfjones) for my allroad a few years ago. it works well; however, as you've said, i can't mount a bike rack and it was expensive. I use it for towing.

    I may try to import a used unit from Europe.

    I have the same one mentioned here, in good condition: rusty bolts/ but i can have them replaced!. PM me if you want it. The Kurt tow hitch is probably the only one made for the b5 s4 that I know of...
