    Lightweight 21x10 wheels

    Hi guys,

I'm visiting from the Q5 forum. I'm looking for lightweight 21x10 wheels I can pair with some 285/35 Michelin PSS tires. There aren't a lot of Q5/SQ5 guys who care about wheel weight. I'm looking for 21x10s under 23 lbs, if possible.

I doubt that kind of weight is achievable in that size even with a fully forged design. You may be able to do this with a carbon fiber wheel, but you are looking at like serious money for this. My guess is that a custom forged design like from HRE in this size will be like 28 lbs +/-.

    Lightweight 21x10 wheels

I believe my 21" HRE P104s weigh in right at 22lbs.

Edit - I guess a little bigger if the 10" are exactly 22lbs

Found this from an HRE rep:
Would love to get the weights if possible.
    21"x10.0" P101 22.4lbs.
    21"x10.0" P104 22.0lbs.
    21"x10.0" P107 22.8lbs.
HRE Performance Wheels. For those who don't need to compromise.

I can definitely tell a difference with unsprung weight. Even with the car lowered, it's a much smoother ride than before.

For the record, I got my wheels for under $100 a piece and they weigh 21.X pounds. They're nowhere near as big as 21's, but for the price it's hard to beat that. I realize their quality is likely shit compared to OEM but then again so are the HREs. At least mine can be scrapped to recoup a decent chunk of what I paid.

To the OP, there's not going to be an economical way to accomplish what you want. Can you give us a bit of color on what exactly you're trying to achieve? Is this primary for drag racing? Are you going to be reducing the weight of your SUV in other ways too?
HRE doesn't manufacture the inners/outers used. HRE uses inners/outers made by triangle alloys. all/most the higher end 3 piece wheel companies use triangle or ars. then theres the cheaper Chinese or Korean alternatives such as rimtec. the old school triangle hoops were single walled/rolled, were weaker and did bend easier. the newer and current stuff is double rolled now and really thick. im running 255/30/21 and 295/25/21 HRE wheels with the newer triangle hoops, my wife also drives the car in LA and im sure shes not anywhere as careful as me, hitting potholes, etc. and I haven't had a wheel bend on me yet. she did bubble one of the rear tires by hitting something and the rim was not bent or out of round.

Has it ever occurred to you that some people are not TRYING to be anything? When we're essentially discussing the top of the Audi product line, the incomes in here could range from probably $80-90k a year to multiple-millions per year. That's a huge discrepancy and a major difference in how people can spend. You have no idea where any of us fall on that spectrum. Your argument is essentially that you're much better with your money and would never not get maximum value on your dollar, but you're the one pulling the trigger on $100 wheels. Probably should have just stuck with the OEM wheels instead of wiping your ass with $400, right? What a waste.

I know you refuse to reply to me because I keep calling you back out and you can't handle an argument without using an overwhelming amount of tech talk... so I'll expect the same here.

He's a fucking clown. He embarrassed himself with the ridiculous matrix headlights crap and decided to lay low for a while, probably in hopes that people would forget. Now he's back in full force. Seemingly no thread goes by where he isn't offering multiple posts explaining why he knows all and the rest of us are idiots. I maintain he doesn't even fucking own a S6. Ass. Clown.

I can only speak for myself which is I why I prefaced the statement by saying "in my opinion." To me, it doesn't matter if I'm a peon, a millionaire, or a billionaire, I'm not flushing my hard earned money down the toilet by spending 8-10K on rims or 8K on a catback exhaust system. I'd rather improve my car by doing so on a budget where I get a much better return on the money I've spent. Which is why I bought the wheels that I did. They will mostly be used for the strip, they let me fit the drag radials that I wanted to run (won't fit on my stock wheels), and at the same time they reduce the weight by around 8-9lbs per corner (although that is negated by the much heavier than stock drag radials).
Then just talk about what you're doing and I'll be interested to read. Your posts are informative, but why all the "wannabee baller" and sheep jabs? It's silly and I'm assuming you do it because it's the Internet and trolling is fun.

I don't know enough about cars or have the time to learn/then do it on a true budget. I appreciate guys who do, but I just love driving and the finished result. In my months long search for wheels I considered many options... eyes just kept taking me back to the HREs, ears kept saying "yep I like that akra sound clip the most". So that's what I bought, just decided to buy on 100% personal preference only and not consider cost for this particular car build. That was a conscious decision.

I don't see what's wrong with either approach to "building a car", but it seems you resent any way that's not your way.

Some might think owning a twin turbo V8 is also ridiculous. Why do you need a car like this to begin with? Just get a Hyundai Elantra and it will get you from point A to point B just the same.

    Enjoy this....

    Nice wheels man!

at last a wheel thread that has the weight as a primary factor! lightweight wheels CAN improve overall performance.

21s are too big for me and the freaking NYC roads. I went down a size for a taller tire that forgives more...

I'm a simple man so I don't like to think so much about how others spend their money. If someone can spend money on something just to be a baller, good for them and I don't see anything wrong with that. We wouldn't buy these cars to begin with if we really want to spend money wisely so we are all in the same crazy boat anyway. I'm sure that the majority of camry or accord drivers would think that we are a bunch of idiots who spend ridiculous amount of money on something that its main purpose is to get you from point A to point B.

No one here is really better than others.

Please share pics of these $100 a piece wheels, I can't think of a single wheel that would work on our cars that are anywhere near $100. Also you bought your S6 fro $36K, that has to be the lowest purchase price ever on a C7 S6. I'm assuming it's a pretty basic model at that price?

If you check online now, there are two 2013 S6s with asking prices of mid $30K's. With some haggling, you might even be able to get an S6 for $30K. But then again I did buy mine almost a year ago when prices were higher.

If I posted a picture of the wheels, you and everyone else would surely laugh. They're pretty gross. But again, I picked function over form because I only plan to run these at the strip.
I'm not going to laugh I just want to see what a $100 wheel looks like, what size are they?

I'm partial to the 107s myself... Here's mine in brushed dark clear. Getting them ready to go on the car pretty soon.

Edit: these are 20" in case that wasn't clear. Just adding to the HRE p-series love. There's a series of pics of a Q/SQ5 (can't recall which) with P107s on the HRE website. Looks fantastic.
