    New wheels? 26lb too heavy?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Looking to get some summer wheels and convert the stock 17" 5 spoke to winter wheels.

Not sure what the 17s weigh with or without tires, but most of the wheels I have been looking at are around 26lbs.

The car is otherwise stock right now. Coilovers or springs will also be going on the car with the new wheels.

Interested in real world experience with stock engine power and wheels around this weight.

    Thanks,
    Mike

26 lbs is nothing out of the ordinary. It is heavier than stock, but that is largely expected when going from 17" to 19".

    Stock 17" are 21-22 lbs
    OEM RS4 19" are 27 lbs

That isn't horrendous, but isn't great either. Should be fine for a daily driver. If you were planning on significant track time, I would look for lighter.

What kind of effect does wheel weight have on mpg? Obviously lighter is better but always wondered what the impact is.

Heavier wheels should cause a drop in city fuel mileage, but highway economy should be mostly unaffected assuming tire diameter and width are the same.
