    55K Maintenance Schedule Questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello, I'd like to get some help and advice on my 55K maintanence schedule.

After reviewing my maintanence schedule for the 55k miles mark (I'm at 61K) the biggest items are spark plugs and oil change. I'm going to attempt that spark plug change which looks pretty manageable as well as the oil change.

My question is should I spend $145 or so to have my local mechanic do a vehicle inpection on the other stuff? For instance I'm not sure how to "appropriately" inspect or look for signs of failing items when doing the Brake Inspection, Front & Rear Axle, Drive Shaft Boots, Auto Transmissim and Final Drive. Finally any other possible leaks or signs of wear and tear that a certified mechanic might catch that I wouldn't.

Another option to reduce the $145 cost is to ask ala carte if you will and ask them to check for any signs of leaks plus what the items are on the 55k schedule and see if I can save money that way.

Any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What part of Wa are you located in? If you're in Seattle, save yourself the $145. All you're doing is paying someone to "inspect" your car and the ability to tell you somethings wrong so they can fix it. Since you're trying to learn more about your car, why dont you rent a service bay lift for $25/hr and inspect the car yourself. You should be able to check the brakes, suspension, tranny, etc. Heck, if I'm free, I'll help you out.

All you really need to do is look at it and see if its broke. If you have a jack. Just jack each wheel up and look around for anything that doesn't look right and or leaking fluid. If it doesn't look right chances are it isn't right. If you have questions take a photo and post it up or get the member who offered you help.

I just went through this scenario two weeks ago. I was floored by the $ 850 price tag for the 55k service. As result, ordered plugs and air filter from ECS, and had already done the cabin filter. So I had my Audi dealer do just my oil change and in the process (without me even asking), they looked over the whole car and gave me a checklist indicating that. Total cost of service with a coupon was only $ 125. Makes me feel better especially if I have a CPO claim.

Honestly, in hindsight, I would have bought a vacuum siphon pump and done my own oil change. I am planning on doing that for the 65k service, which is basically just oil change.

Wow, this almost looks like I wrote it because I'm in the exact same scenario. I'm planning on changing the spark plugs and filters myself and then have Audi do the oil change (was quoted like $100). I'm no mechanic, so I have no idea what to look for when it comes to seeing if anything is wearing down, etc.

Btw, I'm also in Washington. Let's get together and have a 55k maintenance meet lol

Just picked up a 2013 S4 with 60k. The oil was just changed along with the belts but I don't know if the plugs were changed. I'm curious as to what plugs everyone is using, Bosch oem or NGKs or Denso's. If you could post a link as to the specific plug and where bought I'd appreciate it. Thanks

Audi service prices are rediculous, do all service yourself if you feel comfortable and just pay the dealer if something breaks on the car.

The B8 and B8.5 have different supercharger belt change intervals as per Audi 75k and 55k respectively.

If you can get together with one or more people that can show you what to look for, you can do the inspection on your own with a jack in the future. My son and I have changed the plugs on my B7 A4 and I am not mechanical at all. The DIYs at Audizine and YouTube are your friend.

You need to make your own decision re: the oil change. The cost of parts/fluid alone for my car is $55, and I can usually find coupons for my local dealership to do it for $70-80. Considering my time and need to dispose of the oil, I choose to pay them the $15-25 for labor. Also, as another member mentioned, many of the checks are complimentarily done by the dealership whenever you bring your car in.
