    Painting Park Sensors

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Does anyone have any experience with painting park sensors? When the shop installed the RS6 grill, they weren't sure if painting them black to match would make them not work properly. After further investigation today, I learned that they can be painted and the only come grey when you order them new. With that being said, has anyone painted a set before? If so, what kind of paint did you use, and do you think I could paint them while they a mounted?

Yes, you can paint them with no ill affect, any type of paint will work. Just mask them off and shoot them with a rattle can.

I would cover them with a piece of electrical tape.

What madyspop said. Mask and paint. Sharpie it if you want to feel dangerous. J/k I work in a paint shop and never had issues with painting new sensors. Also, I have a wrap over all of mine with no issues at all.

I actually heard that the vinyl is fine (and can attest to that) but that some paints, especially if black, may not allow the sensors to function as intended.. I would do some more research on this before ruining your sensor(s). I chose to just use vinyl for that reason.

Plastidip it for a test run. If it works, you're probably good to go with most rattle cans. Hell, the Plastidip might even be nice enough to do the job period. If you experience malfunctions, peel it off.

Electrical tape is vinyl, comes on a convenient 3/4 inch wide roll and you can peel it off. Get some Scotch/3M 33+ and you're good for four to five years of exterior exposure.
