its actually 245 for the extra key and 195 LABOR CHARGE for them to program your key to the car (at my local audi dealer), add tax on top so yea 500 sounds about right. I asked why 200 in labor they told me they actually have to reset both the key you have now and the new key to the ecu, and it take 2 hrs...

you can probably find a key on ebay or online for much less than the dealer is quoting you. In terms of programming, probably best to do it at the dealer, but I believe there are other althernatives out there...maybe some super specialized locksmith that does audi keys?

go back to where you bought the car and ask to be reimbursed for the extra key, every car should come with 2 keys.

Can't be done that way.The internal chip must be a fresh chip, you cannot erase the old codes and program new ones.Thats what the dealer said.Unless the car was sold with two keys listed on the ad the seller doesn't require to provide two keys.

Which dealer quoted you that? Midtown told me $400-500 range. Did not get a firm quote, the sales rep who sold me my car said it was about that for a replacement fob

I bought a car with one key also. Anybody know how much the valet key that doesn't have a chip would cost?

I was thinking I could get one of those in case I do loose my key and it use it in an emergency case.

I lost one of my fob's and a new one at the dealer was about 275 complete. I decided to just buy the metal piece of the fob for about 75 bucks at the dealer that will open the door for when I locked my keys in the car. I don't have a valet key either so I'm not sure what it does. I have yet to use it but it's nice knowing I have it just in case.

I'm not sure if there is a "valet" key", at least not one without a chip. The thin plastic emergency key also has a chip. It will open the door and when inserted in the special plastic holder, will start the car. The car won't start without a chipped key. You can carry the emergency key in a wallet or purse.

Thanks JFO, but the plastic emergency key from the glove box won't start mine on its own. I guess I should get the manual out see what it says.

The piece in the glove box is just the adapter. You need the plastic, chipped key that fits into it in order to start the car. You don't want to keep the emergency key in the glove box adapter.
