    2005.5 B7 S4 Engine Help!!!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So, my car threw the check engine light at me along with the traction control light. It has been doing this on and off for a while now. After this happens, when I start my car, the RPMs go up and down and my car almost dies out sometimes. The lights also flicker. Does anyone know what this could be? I already replaced the MAF sensor so it isn't that. When this happens, I usually just reset everything with an OBD2 scanner but I don't have that on me. Is there a way to reset it without a scanner? I heard it may be the O2 sensors? Any help is much appreciated. Especially with resetting the codes. Thanks!

This also happens mid drive though... wouldn't that mean it can't be my spark plugs?

dont just start throwing parts at it. thats not only dumb but costly and rather ineffective. if you can scan the car with VCDS, do it. but for the love of god, dont just drive down to the parts house and buy every part it "could" be. I highly doubt the spark plugs would throw the traction control light, but hey, weirder things have happened. my traction control light in my A4 would come on when there was a problem with the ABS (not saying that is the case here) When it does this, what code is/was it throwing? have you reached out to anyone in the regional forum to see if anyone has a vag com cable near you? a generic OBD2 scanner can help, but if you can graph live data and/or do a deeper scan for codes that dont trigger a CEL, that would be the way to go. I'd like to see the fuel trims to see if there is a lean or righ condition (reported as an 02 code sometimes and often mistaken for a bad 02 sensor) If it is a short somewhere, it may be hard to track down unless it stores a code.

waiting to get some cash. Stupid taxes and the whole buying a house thing have kind of derailed my car budget. Should be tearing into it within the next few months. I'm going to be taking a trip down to JHM and see what parts i can sneak by the old lady. lmao

Is the epc light on as well? If traction control and epc light is on it means your throttle body connection is faulty. Spray wire connection cleaner on the throttle body connectors and use zip tie to make the connecters tighter.
