Please help, need to find a DIY or instructions on how to replace the AC compressor on my V8 S5. Dealer quote me $4100.00. AC compressor is $875.00 plus dryer, the rest is labor. They told me the engine needs to come out to replace it.

Thanks in advance. I already searched but did not find anything.

Sorry if this isn't the info you're looking for by I wonder if this would be worth it to consider?

The replacement of the compressor may not be a difficult job, but the refrigerant that is inside cant just be released to the atmosphere. The modern ones are not as horrible as the old CFCs like R12 etc, but still not something that you want out there. That being said, you would need at minimum a recovery machine and bottle to capture whatever gas is still in the system. Then, once the new components are in, draw a vacuum to make sure no air is in there. You may not want to go to the dealer for the job as a good shop should be able to do it for cheaper, but I wouldn't think that it is something that you could do on your own in the driveway.

Thanks for the info. The dealer evacuated the system. So right now there is no R134 in it.

Take it to a different dealer or find a reputable independent shop. I had mine done last year and while it was under warranty, was about 1/4 of that price.

3000 for labor?!?! 20+hrs to replace your compressor? Thats perhaps the most ridiculous stealership story Ive heard yet. I don't have a link to the DIY, but the job is certainly not complicated. Assuming you have an average capacity for the wrench, the right tools, and some patience. There is zero reason I can think of to pull the motor, except to increase your bill and maybe provide more room. I have no idea where the compressor is on the V8, but Id imagine putting the front end in service mode would give all the room needed and that takes 20 mins tops.

If I recall correctly the AC compressor is sandwiched between the motor and the subframe. It also faces backward and is actually chain driven.
